GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE: Responsible for the coordination and control of all aspects related to farming operations in support of the divisional objectives at the job location. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION: * Responsible for farming operations for crops in the job location. Specifically, 1991.40 farm acres translating into 4250 crop acres. * Develop farming plan for the season including varieties, plant spacing, nurseries, fumigation, acreage, labor and harvest requirements * Responsible for procurement of seed, chemicals and fertilizers. Work in partnership with Ag Manager on purchasing of materials and supplies for all farming needs * Maintain crop information cards and crop irrigation cards. * Train and mentor new employees to meet company goals * Manage the annual farm budget review and approve vendor invoices. * Participate in all weekly company grower meetings to review Key Performance Indicators, requirements and responsibilities for Dole growers. * Develop goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all direct reports * Responsible for organizing and coordinating equipment contractors for land prep and other sub-contracting issues. * Maintain records, permits and reports per local and state regulations * Work with other internal departments to ensure all Dole programs are functioning and in place (Target Zero, Food Safety etc.) and working within Company standards. * Approve work hours and employee reimbursements of direct reports. * Actively contribute in Operational Excellence meetings and committees to help drive the business. * Attend and participate in company meetings as required. * Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: * 5-7 years in operational management with agricultural companies, including supervision of people * Knowledge of vegetable farming operations. Experience with organic farming practices helpful but not required * Experience with financial responsibilities and budgets * Experience working with pesticides and farming equipment * Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment; must be flexible, even-tempered, a good mediator, and forceful when needed * Strong organizational, technical, interpersonal, and communication skills * Knowledge and proficiency with use of computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint * Knowledge of Safety and Food Safety requirements * Strong organizational, technical, interpersonal, and communication skills. * Bilingual Spanish/English preferred or High Level of Ag Spanish PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Ability to travel to ranches and company offices * Ability to walk on uneven ground in remote field locations and work in various weather conditions * Ability to identify and distinguish colors * Ability to climb on and off farming equipment WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: * Ability to work long hours and work 7 days a week when necessary. * Ability to work in various weather conditions and walk on uneven ground * Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Required Experience
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION: * Bachelor's degree in agriculture preferred, or equivalent related experience. PAY RATE:
- $140,000 - $150,000 Annually
