Thomas Jefferson University seeks to fill a full-time 12-month non-tenure, visiting research instructor in Engineering. The primary responsibility is to manage a research group consisting of several graduate students and undergraduate research assistants. Responsibilities include managing the students, their research projects, and the associated grant, foundation, and industry contract accounts for these projects. The opportunity also exists to participate in the publishing and presentation of the research results, and to teach one or two courses per year, as an overload, if deemed appropriate by the Dean and Program Director.

This research faculty member will manage graduate and undergraduate research students studying the materials science and process engineering of natural materials including biopolymers, natural bast fibers, and their derivatives. In collaboration with other faculty and staff, they will coordinate these research activities; including the joint management of research spaces, equipment, materials, supplies, and consumables needed to execute the projects. They will also manage the external grants and contracts that support this research, including the coordination of tuition and stipend payments for the graduate students and hourly pay for the undergraduate students. Finally, this research faculty member will also participate in the publishing of research results in peer reviewed journals and the presentation of research results at professional conferences

This research faculty member will also participate in the identification of future external funding opportunities and in the writing and submission of grants and contracts in response to these opportunities. They will also be expected to interact with students, co-workers, visitors, and other individuals consistent with the values of Jefferson.

Job Description

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a master's degree in an appropriate discipline and five or more years of experience in managing scientific research projects.
