This position manages the weld departments in two of our facilities.
Under the direction of the Director of Production, the Welding Manager ensures the production of company products at the highest quality and lowest cost possible, while meeting company performance standards, customer specifications, and delivery requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Reviews production orders and schedules to confirm product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.


  • Plans production operations, establishes priorities, and delegates work assignments to ensure production of company products at the highest quality and lowest cost possible, while meeting company performance standards, customer specifications, and delivery requirements.


  • Ensure the training of new and present employees in the processes and methods required to achieve the company's standards for quality, quantity, safety, and ISO 9001.


  • Tests and certifies welders in weld processes.


  • Participate in planning meetings, recommending space, personnel, and equipment requirements.


  • Ensure adherence to ISO9001 procedures and requirements.


  • Reviews part and material shortages with purchasing and works with production planning to adjust schedules as necessary.


  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance procedures and plan the repair of machines and equipment to minimize downtime.


  • Develop, recommend, and implement departmental policies and procedures, processes, and methods


  • Continually evaluate processes and methods, recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment, performance, utilization of people, and quality of product.


  • Act as a technical resource to address and resolve inquiries and problems; and analyze and resolve work problems, and assist workers in solving work problems.


  • Maintain departmental supplies, tools, equipment, and order as necessary.


  • Ensure the completion of all required production paperwork, records, documentation, such as time cards and quality records.


  • Ensure compliance with departmental housekeeping standards and all safety and work rules and regulations.



QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Requires a bachelor's degree and one to two years related experience; or two years of college and three to five years of progressively responsible related experience; or four years of high school and seven to ten years of progressively responsible related experience; or a combination of education and experience. Certification as a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is preferred. Experience using computer applications, including Microsoft Office and Manufacturing Software
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages all employees in the Welding department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, production schedules, purchase orders, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, procedure manuals, and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of specification and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
