Position Summary

The Communications Coordinator (CC) works with the Communications Director (CD) to coordinate the internal and external aspects of communications and related marketing. This includes media, public relations, and branding activities for VOA Oregon, resulting in a high level of visibility that is designed to generate organizational awareness, increased fundraising and volunteer engagement, program growth, and enhanced positive recognition for the organization. The CC will help advance VOA Oregon's mission, programs, and services and the communications strategy through the website, integrated direct and email-based communication strategies, social media, and general communications and marketing initiatives.



Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing, or related field. Additional education may be substituted for experience, and educational qualifications may be waived depending on work history.
  • Three to five years' experience with communications/marketing/public relations for a nonprofit organization.
  • Experience and ability to develop social media and digital marketing campaigns.
  • Experience with and working knowledge of fundraising/development best practices.

  • Demonstrates strong writing and editing skills.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and high computer literacy including, Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator), WordPress, Google Analytics, and eMarketing tools like Constant Contact.
  • Knowledge of basic HTML/CSS, SEO, and CMS.
  • Website design and management.
  • Basic graphic design.
  • Experience with photography and various audiovisual services is a plus!
  • Results-oriented and personally accountable for expectations, timelines, and outcomes.
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision, as well as effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong initiative and self-motivation.



Other Eligibility:



  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including extended weekend, evening, and holiday hours on occasion as needed.
  • An active driver's license, current insurance, access to reliable transportation, and ability to pass our insurer's driving standards and a criminal background check are required.



Duties and Responsibilities



  • Create, distribute, and maintain content for printed and electronic materials including newsletters, annual report, program brochures and flyers, event announcements, invitations, signage, etc.


  • Maintain organization's website and social media accounts, including content creation and curation.
  • Collaborate across programs and departments on various communications projects.
  • Analyze, measure, and run reports on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of all channels.
  • Assist with other external and internal communications duties as needed.
  • Coordinate with Communications Director on communication standards, schedules, and timelines.
  • Ensure that all promotional materials are aligned with organization's brand identity.
  • Assist in writing and editing articles for internal and external materials.
  • Assist with the management of Google AdWords campaigns.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Supervisory Responsibility: Position is not responsible for supervision of other employees.

Work Environment: Works in office setting with moderate light, temperature, and sound.

Environmental Conditions: Works in a professional office setting with moderate light and temperature. May occasionally travel locally to attend meetings and events.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position; Monday thru Friday, 40 hours per week, generally from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasionally works extended schedule to include evenings and weekends as needed for events.
