Adaptive Summer Day Camp Program

Experience a fun yet fulfilling summer with the Sterling Heights Parks and Recreation Adaptive Summer Day Program! Join us for the summer of 2025 to help foster growth, celebrate differences, and cultivate fun!

We are seeking creative, compassionate individuals to support the Adaptive Summer Day Program. Our "Amped Up" program provides children and young adults with disabilities an enriching, inclusive, and empowering summer camp experience.

There are three different job classifications within the program; please see below for responsibilities and requirements.

Program runs Tuesday through Friday from June 17 - August 1. Other required trainings are scheduled throughout the month of June.

Adaptive Aide ($13.50-$14.50/hr)


  • Engage with and assist campers during a variety of activities including sports, games, arts & crafts, field trips, etc.
  • Monitor the safety and well-being of campers.
  • Assist with activity planning and implementation as assigned.


Aide Minimum Qualifications



    • Must be 16 years of age or older.
    • Experience working with special needs individuals preferred but not required.
    • Must pass background check and complete CPR, First Aid, and Concussion training. CPR and First Aid training dates will be available through the Sterling Heights Fire Department upon employment.



Adaptive Junior Leader ($16.00/hr)


  • Engage with and assist campers during a variety of activities including sports, games, arts & crafts, field trips, etc.
  • Monitor the safety and well-being of campers.
  • Assist Senior Leader in the planning and implementation of activities.
  • Assume responsibilities of the site in absence of the Senior Leader.
  • Other job duties as assigned.


Junior Leader Minimum Qualifications



    • Must be a high school graduate.
    • Experience working with children/adults required.
    • Experience working with special needs individuals preferred.
    • Must pass background check and complete CPR, First Aid, and Concussion training. CPR and First Aid training dates will be available through the Sterling Heights Fire Department upon employment.



Adaptive Senior Leader ($19.00/hr)


  • Engage with and assist campers during a variety of activities including sports, games, arts & crafts, field trips, etc.
  • Organize and operate one camp with assistance.
  • Supervise and lead staff members in a supportive manner.
  • Monitor the safety and well-being of campers.
  • Plan and implement various activities. Some activities are pre-scheduled but day-to-day activities will be up to the team's creativity.
  • Other job duties as assigned.


Senior Leader Minimum Qualifications



    • Must be a (minimum) two-year college student majoring in education, recreation, or related field preferred.
    • Previous classroom or camp experience.
    • Experience working with special needs individuals required.
    • Must pass background check and complete CPR, First Aid, and Concussion training. CPR and First Aid training dates will be available through the Sterling Heights Fire Department upon employment.
