Position Summary

Leads and manages strategic energy projects, conducts research, performs analyses and makes recommendations to support and develop near-term and long-term energy strategy through modeling. Conducts technical and economic evaluations of Conventional and Emerging Energy Resources, Energy and Environmental Regulations and Policies, Energy, Fuels, Emissions Markets and Existing Energy Resources within and outside the Company Generation Portfolio. Manages cross-functional teams of Engineers, Analysts, and other staff on projects to support strategic energy initiatives.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Conducts research and provides technical and economic analyses on conventional and emerging energy resources such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, municipal solid waste, landfill gas, hydroelectric, hydrogen, energy storage, and other types of new and emerging technologies. Focus on assessing cost, performance, and integration potential.
  • Provides in-depth analyses on power plant cost and performance, energy, fuels, environmental regulatory policies, and emissions markets to support strategic energy planning initiatives, fuel/power cost retail factors, hedging programs, and other initiatives.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (Financial, Pricing, Fuels, Power Generation) and external consultants, to ensure seamless integration of production cost and performance analysis into budgeting, strategic planning, and other financial processes. Leads projects in production cost modeling, utilizing both short-term and long-term production cost modeling software tools.
  • Develop and assess budget cases, sensitivity cases, and stochastic simulations to evaluate the impact of various uncertainties (e.g. load variability, forced outages, fuel cost fluctuations, market price changes) on production costs, wholesale revenue and operational performance.
  • Understands and stays current on ERCOT protocols, energy market rules, and policies that impact the electric utility business and planning.
  • Generates Request for Qualifications and Request for Proposal packages that include Scope of Work and evaluation factors that are critical in the selection of qualified consultants for generation planning studies.
  • Coordinates the creation and execution of Confidentiality Agreements to protect the intellectual property of CPS Energy and our counterparts.
  • Serves as field representative for consultant contracts with responsibility for ensuring contractor's work is completed within scope, schedule and budget.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Understanding of power generation cost and performance.
Understanding of power generation principles.
Increasingly responsible leadership experience including processes, programs or coordinating the work of less senior colleagues.
Exceptional math skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Management level analytical reporting experience.
Strong presentation skills including demonstrated comfort presenting to senior leaders.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or related disciplines
  • Experience in Generation Planning
  • Experience in contract development and procurement
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the company

Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Math, Finance, Business Administration, or other quantitative field from an accredited university.
Required Certifications
Working Environment
Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator.
Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. Available to address challenges and issues that may occur after normal work hours, including weekends.
Physical Demands
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
