POSITION SUMMARY:

Pepper Construction is seeking a dedicated and innovative Project Engineer to join our High-Performance and Sustainable Construction Team. In this role, you will play a vital part in driving our sustainability initiatives by overseeing sustainable building practices, ensuring alignment with LEED certification and other green building standards, managing solar rooftop array projects and developing strategies to reduce carbon emissions in the built environment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

High Performance



  • Support project teams for all green rating certification standards (LEED, WELL, LBC, Green Globes etc.)
  • Regular site visits on projects to monitor and document implementation of certification requirements.
  • Act as a resource for technical support of high-performance and sustainable resources to project teams.
  • Review subcontractor's submittals and collect documents to meet building certification requirements.
  • Provide written comments and reports with excellent grammar and spelling.
  • Prioritization and time management skills, including effective scheduling, managing multiple tasks in parallel and completing tasks to meet tight deadlines.
  • Participate in developing carbon reduction and high-performance building strategies for Pepper.



Solar Rooftop Array Projects



  • Manage all document control aspects of the project - engineering sets, RFI's, Submittals, Quality assurance, non-conformance logs and closeout documents, and additional contractual obligations as directed.
  • Ensure seamless coordination between utility company and project key stakeholders - owner, developer, Pepper and subcontractors to achieve project schedule.
  • Manage pay application approval process in accordance with the contractual terms including review and recommendation of change order approvals.
  • Monitor construction quality to ensure that all work is installed in accordance with the plans, specifications, QA/QC requirements, code requirements, contract requirements and good construction practices.
  • Assist the Project Manager in developing and presenting the project's construction budget. Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify cost reduction opportunities and track cost performance against budget. Produce daily, weekly and monthly reports for internal and external customers.
  • Coordinate the production of weekly/monthly project progress reports and inform senior management on the project status.
  • Manage the Project Close Out process with the relevant lessons learned.



POSITION REQUIREMENTS:




  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of and experience with building certifications such as LEED, Green Globes, WELL Building Standard, Living Building Challenge, etc.
  • Intermediate experience level of Excel and BlueBeam / Working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint.
  • Understand the phases of architectural design and the overall construction process.
  • Able to navigate construction drawings, specifications, and certification reference guides.
  • Willingness to become a LEED Green Associate and NABCEP PV Associate (solar) within the first three (3) months of hire required.
  • Highly detail-oriented with the ability to organize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Demonstrates strong teamwork, proactive initiative, effective communication, and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Position requires travel to support projects throughout the Midwest approximately 50% of the time.



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:




  • Demonstrate subject matter knowledge and experience on sustainability in the built environment.
  • LEED GA and/or AP Accreditation, OR Living Future Accredited, OR WELL AP
  • NABCEP PV Associate (solar) Accreditation
  • Experience with HelioScope or similar solar design software preferred.
  • Experience with Revit, energy modeling, and life cycle analysis software.
  • OSHA 30 Hour
