Manager/Director of Operations (Aerospace/Defense Manufacturing)

Acara Solutions, one of the country's largest advanced manufacturing staffing services firms, is helping our national aerospace/defense manufacturing client find a Director of Operations for their Los Angeles, CA plant. The targeted salary range is $130K - $160K. They are willing to consider an Operations Manager title for an individual that has the experience to move into a director roll now or in the near future.
Oversight of all day-to-day activities, primary operations and production. Major responsibilities will include directing and coordinating the activities of the production department in processing materials and manufacturing products while ensuring gross margin and productivity requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Oversee daily operations and company activities to ensure production efficiency, quality, manufacturing engineering, service, safety and cost-effective management of all resources, while also meeting monthly Sales and COGS forecasts.
  • Manager ERP/MRP to achieve OTD and inventory targets and to make business decisions regarding production activities to maximize business efficiencies.
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing and Business Development teams to provide an open dialog between Division, Operations, and Customers.
  • Implement and manage key performance indicators (KPI's) to optimize operational performance, meet sales/profitability goals and monitor facility and employee progress.
  • Guide production supervisors/managers when troubleshooting production problems, optimizing labor, material and equipment efficiencies.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate levels of communication and accountability to foster a cohesive team and drive employee engagement.
  • Ensure compliance to all ISO9001, AS9100, ISO13485, NADCAP, ITAR, and FDA requirements.
  • Minimize customer returns and scrape %.
  • Champion the organization in Lean and Continuous Improvement activities and methodologies to identify and eliminate inefficiencies throughout all areas of the plant.
  • Develop and review activity reports and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining objectives. Revise objectives and plans, as appropriate, in accordance to current conditions.
  • Responsible for leading a Safety Culter and EHS of the organization.
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (ideally in manufacturing, engineering, business or supply chain)
Min 10 years of manufacturing plant operations leadership experience (ideally within the aerospace, defense, or medical device industry)
- A deep understanding of metric driven performance management with a history of meeting daily/weekly/monthly production targets
- P&L responsibility history and the financial acumen to look for COGS variances
- Experience with similar processes and equipment (CNC machining, plating, assembly, laser welding, etc.)
- Ability to drive monthly forecasts with the team
- A history of applying Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing
- Ability to lead, coach and mentor experienced direct reports
- A track record of Leadership and direction through effective communications, building effective teams
- Quality & Safety: Experience managing safety, environmental performance, and high quality standards.
Min 5 years of experience leading ERP/MRP
Min 3 years of experience within a highly regulated industry with a strong regulatory compliance comfort level
This is an ITAR compliant plant - U.S. persons required.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
MBA or Master's degree
Experience in ceramic processing, electrode application, firing techniques and quality control, couple with knowledge of advanced manufacturing technologies and materials science.
Knowledge of government contracting process
Lean Six Sigma training / belt(s)
