Retzer Nature Center is looking for a Front Desk and Office Attendant to work weekends (Saturday 10:00am-3:00pm; all year round), occasional Sundays (flexible times), and occasional fill-in hours during the week.
Coverage is shared with two other Weekend Attendants.
The ideal candidate will enjoy working with the public at Retzer Nature Center, have a friendly and welcoming demeanor, have the ability to perform office support functions including cash register skills, be comfortable with occasionally working alone, and is responsible worker with a good attention to detail.
Prior to hiring, the successful candidate will be subject to work/education/certification reference(s) verification, a criminal background and driver's license check

Example of Duties
-
- Opens and closes the facility.
- Performs front reception duties, such as greeting the public; answering phones, routing calls, taking messages; checking, receiving and sending emails; providing information concerning public and school programs, special events and room rentals.
- Performs gift shop sales, using point-of-sale system.
- Meets and greets weekend and holiday room rental clients, facilitates their rental use of the Community Room (or component rooms).
- Performs general office and clerical duties such as word processing, copying, stapling, and preparation of mailings.
- Maintains stock of brochures and trail maps.
- Completes a daily observation of the exhibits, exhibit animals, and aquarium, and informs the Nature Center Supervisor of any observed concerns or problems.
- May occasionally care for exhibit animals, such as providing food and changing water.
- In winter, takes payment for snowshoe rentals and assists with snowshoe fitting.
- May perform custodial and cleanup duties in Community Room after room rentals and special events; such duties may entail vacuuming, sweeping, trash and recycling collection and removal.
- May perform set-up, moving, and take-down of chairs and tables in Community Room, in connection with room rentals and special events.
- Performs other duties as requested.
- May be required to stay late to close the building at the conclusion of a late room rental. Although the Retzer Nature Center is closed on Reverand Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day and Easter Sunday, in the event of a room rental on these days, an Attendant may be requested to open and close the Nature Center facility.

Minimum Qualifications

- Possess a High School diploma or GED.
- Some recent clerical office work experience.
- Some recent customer service and cash handling work experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Outlook.
- Working knowledge of standard office equipment, including telephones, office computers, copiers, printers.
- Ability to make minor decisions using standardized practices.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors and the public.
- Ability to follow and to direct work with oral and written instructions.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push/pull, and lift up to 55 lbs, on an occasional basis.
