About the Job

Objective/Overview
CUHCC's mission is transforming care and education to advance health equity. The clinic is known for providing high quality care to diverse patients and is moving forward in improving timely access to care for patients.

The Dental Director provides overall vision, leadership, and management of CUHCC's Dental Department and Dental Training programs. The Dental Director is responsible for developing and monitoring performance on annual quality, productivity, and budget objectives. As a part of CUHCC's Leadership Team, the Dental Director works closely with other areas to ensure integrated care, optimal patient access and outcomes, and inter-professional education.
Dentists provide general and emergency pediatric and adult dentistry care to CUHCC's diverse patients and serve as a preceptor to dental students and residents from the University of Minnesota. Services include a broad range of diagnostic, restorative, and oral surgery to pediatric and adult patients. The Dental Director is expected to provide exams, training, and/or oversight to a hygienist and student or therapist as well as a dental assistant(s). In addition, the Dental Director must sign the Collaborative Management Agreement for CUHCC's Advanced Dental Therapists.

As clinical providers, dentists participate on quality improvement projects and serve on other CUHCC committees as designated. CUHCC dentists must provide respectful care to diverse populations and be able to meet the productivity and quality measures established by the clinic. This will require each dentist to utilize multiple chairs simultaneously and collaborate with other members of the oral health care team.

Reporting Relationships: This position supervises all dental students/residents, dentists, dental therapists, dental hygienists, and works closely and collaboratively with the Dental Clinic Manager. This position reports to the CMO/CEO.

Essential Functions
Patient Care (75%)

  • Provides direct dental patient care three 10-hour days every week
  • Follow best practices on documentation, coding and billing
  • Maintains charts in the electronic health record system(s) and develops a care plan for each patient.

Learners Training Program (5%)

  • Supervises dental students, residents and other dental learners as they train at CUHCC.
  • Provides direction to preceptors and ensures that students and residents receive systematic training in dental procedures and patient care.
  • Collaborates with the Education Manager to provide inter-professional education to students and staff.
  • Strengthens the partnership between the School of Dentistry and CUHCC with regards to patient care, interprofessional education, and team-based care.

Dental Clinic oversight and Operations (20%)

  • Provides overall vision, leadership and engagement to the Dental Department using a team-based approach.
  • Co-develops an annual plan for the Dental Department with productivity, quality, and other measures of success, using the CUHCC Board of Directors Strategic Plan as a guide when possible
  • Provide regular supervision to dentists, dental therapist and hygienists, mentoring and supporting them to meet their goals
  • Leads or co-leads regular staff meetings with the Dental Manager to ensure smooth operations and excellent patient care, while optimizing productivity and efficiency.
  • Meet with CMO at least monthly to discuss progress on objectives.
  • Meets with CFO regularly to discuss the Dental Departments financial performance
  • Collaborates with directors of Medical, Behavioral Health, Pharmacy and Operations to optimize comprehensive and integrated care and services.
  • Recruits, trains, coaches, monitors and evaluates Dentists, Therapists, Hygienists, and Residents/Students. Ensures that staff members work at the top of their licensure.
  • Works with the Director of Advancement to maximize grant revenue.
  • Maintains clinical operations to conform with State and Federal law and guidelines, including staff license requirements, equipment licenses, OSHA, BPHC, and HIPAA requirements.
  • Supports and optimizes the use of the EHR(s) in delivering and documenting services and education as well as leading Wisdom optimization, partnering with ESA/HIT team to ensure success
Qualifications

Minimum/Essential Qualifications

  • DDS, MN State Dental License, and a minimum of 4 years of clinical experience in adult and pediatric general dentistry.
  • Previous experience working in a Federally Qualified Community Health Center or comparable community health center
  • Experience in position(s) of executive or administrative leadership
  • Proven ability to develop dental teams and achieve performance goals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications plus proficiency in Spanish, Hmong, or Somali languages.
  • Competence in providing care to diverse & underprivileged populations.
  • Previous work experience in an educational/academic setting.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $172,000 - $185,000 depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
