Position Summary

We are searching for a Manager in the Energy Settlements Accounting area. This position is responsible for wholesale energy market billing and payments and coordinating the financial settlements of energy transactions with the Energy Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) for nine Qualified Scheduling Entities (QSE's) in the ERCOT nodal market,as well as external counterparties; and managing the fuel cost allocation system, which allocates costs to system and off-system activity by book and operational strategies. Contributes to the successful completion of CPS Energy's annual financial audit and clean opinion.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • * Provides critical oversight of the recording of ERCOT market settlement transactions in the Power Cost Incorporated (PCI) system in accordance with established ERCOT Nodal Protocols and contracts.

    * Oversees functions necessary to support daily cash settlements of energy and ancillary service transactions within the ERCOT Nodal Day-Ahead and Real-Time Markets. Also, settles the procurement of Congestion Revenue Rights and bilateral deals with external counterparties.

    * Reviews and approves payments for the purchase and settlement of gas transactions and purchase power contracts (including renewables such as solar, wind, and battery) on a monthly basis timely and accurately.

    * Oversees functions necessary to support the Controller month-end close process, including providing ERCOT settlement sub-ledger data and wholesale post analysis reconciliations.

    * Oversees the analysis and documentation of ERCOT cost/revenue allocation results of energy transactions, including making recommendations to management on the allocation of costs/revenues between operational strategies.

    * Acts as key liaison with the operational and EIT subject matter experts to answer questions, conduct testing and provide input on design requirements and upgrades related to PCI energy data, settlements or post-allocation systems.

    * Oversees reporting to comply with regulatory and other internal/external reporting requirements, such as the PUCT, ERCOT, FERC and internal accounting.

    * Monitors all new ERCOT developments and works with internal stakeholders (e.g., ESMO Front Office and Middle Office, EIT groups, Metering, etc.), to implement all protocol changes impacting settlement charges.

    * Contributes to the successful completion of CPS Energy's annual financial audit and clean opinion to include: Acting as key liaison to answer critical questions and participate in complex discussions with external auditors involving ERCOT settlements and transactions; overseeing the timely and accurate completion of audit schedules and responses to requests for information.

    * Manages, coaches and mentors the development of Energy Settlements Accounting staff to include provision of learning opportunities, cross-training, and ongoing focus on staff engagement, safety, and practice of CPS Energy's behavioral principles and core values.

    * Develops performance goals and provides feedback in accordance with CPS Energy's performance management system.

    * Performs other duties, including complex special projects and new product lines, as assigned.

Demonstrated ability to multi-task various critical work assignments proactively and independently in a fast paced environment and in a professional manner.
Demonstrated ability to oversee system conversions/enhancements, including identifying system requirements, development of test scripts and performance of system testing.
Possess a valid driver's license with a history of a safe driving record in accordance with CPSE policies, procedures, safety standards, and applicable laws and regulations
Preferred Qualifications

CPA or comparable professional financial designation.

MBA with concentration in Accounting, Finance or related field.

Knowledge and/or experience with ERCOT settlements and billing.

Working knowledge and/or experience in wholesale energy markets.

Working knowledge of ERCOT market protocols and their application to operation of a diverse generation portfolio.

Familiarity with processes for production cost modeling and post transaction analysis for wholesale power marketing.

Familiarity with operational systems used to implement ERCOT deployments, preferably PCI Gen Trader and ABB Network Manager.

Bachelor's Degree in Business with a concentration in Accounting Finance or related field from an accredited university
Required Certifications
Working Environment
