Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research seeks to improve the health of individuals, families, and populations by understanding the problems, issues, and alternatives in the design and delivery of health care services. This is accomplished through an interdisciplinary program of research, consultation, technical assistance, and training that focuses on timely and policy-relevant questions concerning the accessibility, adequacy, organization, cost, and effectiveness of health care services, and the dissemination of this information to policymakers and the general public. |
Position Summary |
The Rural and Underserved Graduate Medical Education Technical Assistance Center at the Cecil G. Sheps Center is seeking a Deputy Director to serve as a key member of our dynamic team. The Deputy Director assists the Project Director/Principal Investigator in strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Rural and Underserved Graduate Medical Education Technical Assistance Center. The Deputy Director ensures the effective execution of the TA Center's strategic initiatives, day-to-day operations, stakeholder engagement, and relevant outcomes and policy analysis and reporting. This position serves as a primary support to the Project Director and may act as a representative in their absence.
Roles and responsibilities:
TA Center Leadership
- Assist with directing technical assistance offerings to developing and established Graduate Medical Education (
GME) programs across the country focusing on
GME policy and financing implications,
GME program infrastructure, and resident recruitment and faculty development.
- Provide
GME development and vitality expertise to the RuralGME,
THCGME, and
NCGME programs, state
GME initiatives, and provide direction and mentorship to the
AACOM/
UNC Sheps Center
GME Development Fellowship.
- Help identify and pursue governmental, non-governmental, and private funding opportunities, and assist in writing proposals, managing budgets, and maintaining funder relationships.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage in strategic planning processes with key stakeholders and manage stakeholder engagement.
- Facilitate partner meetings and peer networks.
- Disseminate education to stakeholders (e.g. organizational partners, accrediting bodies, policymakers) on
GME program development and vitality (e.g. organizational partners, accrediting bodies, policymakers).
- Create tools and resources to support the growth of national, regional, and state level
GME networks.
- Direct measurement of outcomes for existing and newly developed programs.
- Coordinate growth of a national consortium of rural and underserved
GME stakeholders.
Research and Dissemination
- Design and implement research and evaluation initiatives, including identifying new project opportunities.
- Promote interdisciplinary research with internal and external partners, and lead and support publication, policy brief, and presentation development and delivery on evaluation and research findings.
- Analyze
GME policy and financing implications for supported programs.
- Mentor staff and students in
GME policy, financing, and programming and stakeholder relations. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Experience managing workforce development and/or technical assistance programming and monitoring. Experience designing and conducting program evaluation and research projects. Excellent relationship management skills, strong writing and editing skills, excellent project management skills, familiarity with Microsoft suite applications for information sharing and communications. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Five or more years of relevant experience preferred. Strong knowledge of
GME and/or health workforce development and expansion processes and regulations (especially in underserved settings). Five or more years of project management experience is preferred. |
