What you will accomplish as an Electrical Engineer III at TAPCO:

Designing advanced electronic circuits and assemblies for new products and concept designs. Advises Electrical Engineers I-II for creating electrical drawings and BOMs. Leads engineering processes such as design reviews and validation testing with the guidance of Electrical Engineer IV.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, test, and troubleshoot advanced electronic circuits
  • Configure existing and source new modems, controllers, and network switches; Able to independently create new setups for off-the-shelf networking devices and controllers
  • Independently design test plans and guide other EE's to use lab equipment to test devices
  • Proficient in regulatory standards and state or local specifications, direct product development and testing to pass regulatory tests
  • Independently create BOMs for electrical assemblies, including ERP entry. Checks the work of EE's 1-2. Signs off on BOM accuracy
  • Recommend cost reduction opportunities through part design and process improvements. Direct EE's 1-2 on cost reduction tasks
  • Reviews and approves electrical drawings; conveys concepts and changes of drawings and technical documents to EE's 1-2
  • Respond to electrical and electronic communications with Product Management, Procurement, Marketing, Quality, Manufacturing, Production and Sales Management as needed
  • Determines product design specifications from marketing requests/requirements
  • Define requirements for new and alternate components, review and approve components researched by EE's 1-2
  • Participate in supplier dialog, and provide technical information and support to purchasing. Provide technical input for purchasing when qualifying new suppliers
  • Performs cost analysis of current and proposed future designs
  • Leads Design Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) and Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R)
  • Leads Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Assembly (DFA) for standardized components and processes
  • Define product test requirements & criteria for in-house and CM manufacturing personnel to ensure product quality, review procedures written by EE's 1-2

Required Experience and Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
  • 5+ years working in an engineering environment
  • Knowledge of LED lighting and control, power management of AC (including 3-phase) and DC (solar panel and battery array) systems and can apply to new designs
  • Ability to provide input and assist in planning the design timelines on overall project schedules and outline prerequisites/impact of certain tasks.
  • Working understanding of the C4 (New Product Development) process as it relates to individual and engineer team tasks. Participates in project team meetings.
