What You'll Do in This Position

SRNS is seeking to hire an Associate Scientist (Hydrogeologist) for the Engineering Remediation Support Organization to contribute to the planning and completion of soil and groundwater investigations and groundwater monitoring reports. Hydrogeologists will perform the following tasks relative to specific departmental scope:
* Assist in the development of work plans, sampling and analysis plans, remedial investigation reports, specifically in the determination of soil and groundwater sampling locations and depths and analytical requirements using departmental protocols.
* Perform coordination of groundwater sampling, review and interpretation of data, and compilation into regulatory reports using SRS environmental database, mapping and graphing tools, and document templates.
* Perform technical oversight of drilling and sampling activities in the field under the supervision of a more experienced hydrogeologist.
* Work with other scientists and environmental engineers as a project team in conducting the characterization, data evaluation, problem identification, and alternative development to address contaminants of concern at waste sites at SRS
Recent college graduates will initially be placed in the Engineering Leadership and Development Program (ELDP). They will receive one-on-one career development assistance from seasoned professionals from different backgrounds and will be co-located with other new hires allowing for peer group connection. They will begin their technical training as well as be given project assignments that will provide them with exposure to different facilities and site work processes.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. This list of factors is not exhaustive; pre-employment information and security clearance requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications We Require

Bachelor degree in applicable science or engineering discipline from an accredited college or university

Other Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in geology or hydrogeology.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required.

Qualifications We Desire

Master's degree in applicable science discipline such as Geology, Hydrogeology, or Civil/Environmental Engineering, preferred.
Sound technical knowledge base of discipline's standard concepts, principles, and techniques.
Previous working/research experience with chemical and/or radionuclide contaminants in the environment.
Demonstrated strong communication and writing skills.
Competence using mapping software (e.g. ArcGIS), Microsoft products (Word/Powerpoint/Excel).
Familiarity using databases.
