NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range:

$157,100 - $267,000

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an R&D Manager to lead a new organization reporting to the Director of the Proliferation Assessments (PA) Center, part of the Threat Intelligence Community (TIC). This department will engage across a comprehensive range of mission areas at SNL, providing expertise in Compartmented Access Programs (CAPs), analytic tradecraft, publication/dissemination, and related training and continuous professional education. As threats to US national security evolve, SNL's deep expertise and capabilities are increasingly utilized by the US Government to inform policy and strategic decision-making. We contribute to delivering high-quality technical intelligence assessments and analyses to sponsors and stakeholders by maintaining access to essential all-source reporting channels while ensuring that finished products meet SNL and IC standards for tradecraft, quality, and dissemination controls. You will also serve as the L1 manager point-of-contact for SNL's CAPs program, collaborating closely with our team of CAPs Control Officers, associated mission programs, and DOE-IN and OGA partners.

On any given day, you may be called on to:



  • Develop and lead a newly formed team to focus on integrating our IC assessment capabilities to meet National Security missions.

  • Initiate program development initiatives by identifying and building relationships with key stakeholders, including OGA sponsors.

  • Oversee multiple teams and staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality technical intelligence assessments and analyses.

  • Collaborate with peers across Sandia, the broader DOE-lab complex, and trusted partners at other government agencies to operate as a coordinated team and achieve mission objectives.

  • Foster strong, trust-based relationships with peers through mentorship and professional development.

  • Coordinate specific deliverables, program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements.

  • Serve as Sandia's programmatic point of contact for Controlled Access Programs.

  • *Address personnel, safety and security concerns.

  • Exemplify exceptional leadership by providing guidance and direction to staff, ensuring their technical growth and development.



This position requires domestic travel ~ 3-6 times per year

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Qualifications We Require:



  • Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering field plus six (6) or more years of directly related experience, or

  • Master's degree in a science or engineering field plus two (2) or more years of directly related experience

  • Five (5) or more years' experience working with Sandia's Nuclear Weapons programs, the Intelligence Community (IC), DoD, or other similar government agencies

  • Two (2) or more years of experience working with the Intelligence Community (IC)

  • Active DOE Q or DOD TS clearance

  • Active SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph examination



Qualifications We Desire:



  • Two (2) or more years of demonstrated leadership experience

  • Awareness of the type of work SNL performs with the Intelligence Community

  • Experience with, or knowledge-base of:

  • Sandia's IC tradecraft and publications

  • Controlled Access Programs and related security policies and procedures

  • other DOE national labs

  • SPP and SIPP processes and related NNSA requirements

  • recruiting, hiring, guiding, mentoring and leading staff

  • building and leading organizational strategy

  • Demonstrated success in program management and program development

  • Ability to:

  • work with sensitive information and classified matter

  • interact effectively with all levels of internal and external customers, including the ability to build and manage effective working relationships

  • effectively coordinate and negotiate with stakeholders (internal and external)

  • deliver results across multiple agencies/sponsors

  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Proven ability to deliver results and effectively lead/guide multidisciplinary teams

  • Knowledge of Sandia's safety and security rules and guidelines



About Our Team:

The IC Integration Department (05901) will engage across a comprehensive range of IC mission areas at SNL, however it will focus on deliverables for Center 5900/Proliferation Assessments and their customers. The team will have expertise in Compartmented Access Programs, analytic tradecraft, publication/dissemination, and related training and continuous professional education.

Center 5900, Proliferation Assessments, is part of the Threat Intelligence Community along with Center 5600, Cyber Threat Center, and 5500, Applied Information Sciences. Together we address a wide range of threats to the United States through deep understanding of science and technology and understanding the art of the possible. Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) SCI security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
