Position Highlights |
The College of Applied Science and Technology is seeking qualified and enthusiastic applicants for the position of Academic Advisor I. This position supports undergraduate students throughout their tenure in CAST by empowering them to achieve their academic and career goals through developmental and appreciative advising. The Academic Advisor will work alongside students to interpret policy, procedures, and academic requirements, including degree requirements. This position will support freshmen, transfer, and readmitted students across several campuses including Main, Arizona Online, and South by determining students' stage of development and promoting growth. The Academic Advisor will collaborate across the university to ensure an understanding of university resources and opportunities for students. This position will consult with Senior Academic Advisors on complex cases as needed. Duties & Responsibilities |
Provide advising and academic support for freshmen, transfer, and readmitted students across several campuses including Main, Online, and South to ensure successful degree completion including determining of students' stage of development and promotion of their growth by finding suitable resources, academic schedules, support services, evaluation of transfer and military credit for usage toward degree requirements, establishing realistic and attainable goals. Work closely with student services staff, as a cross-college team to offer best-in-class student services that proactively address concerns of all students, particularly around academic anxieties, career planning and student engagement, and financial planning. This team will assist students with creating connections to university resources throughout their time to degree. Assesses individual students' stage of development (academic and career) and promotes their growth by determining suitable developmental tasks Evaluates use of transfer and military credit and determines whether degree requirements have been met Supports students in establishing realistic and attainable academic and career goals Assists undergraduate students in determining educational plans, choosing courses, and exploring majors, minors, and career options Identifies educational and career options appropriate for each student and assists student with evaluating each option, including possible outcomes and their implications Counsels students on options to satisfy degree requirements Monitors students' academic progress, determines satisfactory progress toward degree, and assists students in completion Identifies current and potential needs or problem areas (e.g., study skills, tutoring) Advises students with academic difficulty on development of an academic action plan and agreement, and refers students to appropriate campus resources for assistance as needed Approve and certify programs of study for fulfillment of graduation requirements; approve and verify proposed changes to programs and assist students in their completion; determine if all requirements such as general education, major, grade point average and total units have been met Using a variety of University systems, maintains student files, records and advisor notes and identifies/remedies any potential systemic issues for the student Maintain student and prospect records, including the accurate and timely documentation of all pertinent student information, and update computerized information systems regarding changes to student status Interpret department, College, and University policies, procedures and systems to students. Maintains knowledge of regulations and policies and systems that impact students' educational options Provide comprehensive orientation experience to new students in a variety of formats. Coordinate with other UA advisors and Student Services staff to stay current with advising policies and procedures and provide consistent student services and advising. Provide general assistance and information to students, the general public and departments; confer with prospective transfer students regarding transferability of credits and admissions information Collect and report prospective student data Correspond with prospective students regarding academic programs, admissions, transferability of coursework, veterans' benefits and financial aid Contribute to the development of web, print, and other recruitment materials Additional duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: General knowledge and use of principles, theories and concepts. Is competent in all job functions and has general understanding of the industry practices, techniques, and standards. |
Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum
of 1 year of relevant work experience is required.
