A Brief Overview
The EKG Technician is responsible for performing EKG's on patients as prescribed, in various settings including outpatient clinic, ED, and inpatient locations supporting the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular conditions in a face-paced academic medical setting.

What you will do

  • Perform standard EKG testing, in outpatient clinic, ED and inpatient locations as ordered by prescribing clinician. Ensure proper lead placement in all age groups for accurate and readable results. Record EKG's that are free from artifact.

  • Inform patients and families, explaining each step, address any questions to ensure they feel at ease during the testing process.

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide safe and efficient patient care.

  • Adhere to hospital infection control protocols. Clean equipment and ensure all equipment, such as electrodes, leads etc. are in good working condition to guarantee accurate results and ensure patient safety. Troubleshoot basic technical issues.

  • Retrieve patient records from disks on portable EKG machines and process the information.

  • Maintain adequate par levels of supplies and order supplies as needed.

  • Participate in the training of new employees and other health care professionals on proper procedure of performing EKG's.

  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings.

  • Demonstrate basic understanding of EKG readings.

  • Follow departmental protocols for billing of EKG's.

  • Perform tasks per departmental protocol in the EMR and other applicable systems (Muse etc.).

  • Review EKG reports performed by other clinicians and edit documentation per protocol to ensure adequacy of study and appropriate billing.

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED Required

  • Technical Diploma EKG Program Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year experience in EKG with or without certification required

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work well with others

  • Basic computer skills, Microsoft Office, Email

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Attention to detail
