Position Summary

The Compensation and Benefits Specialist assists with developing and implementing compensation and benefit programs to attract, retain, and motivate employees. Contributes towards creating a comprehensive total rewards strategy that aligns to the organization's goals, culture, and market competitiveness.

Job Duties

  • Assists with conducting research and analysis to determine market trends and benchmarks for compensation and benefits packages. Participates in and reviews salary and benefit surveys, industry data, and job market trends to ensure the organization's pay rates and benefits are competitive and aligned with industry standards.
  • Administers employee benefits programs such as health and welfare benefits, retirement plans, and other fringe benefits.
  • Supports the annual benefits renewal process, including the coordination of annual open enrollment process, communication, and vendor data feeds.
  • Serves as a liaison between employees and vendors to resolve escalated claims.
  • Supports the development and implementation of compensation structures, including salary ranges, pay scales, bonus, and/or incentive programs. Participates in the annual compensation planning process and assists with establishing guidelines for salary adjustments and promotions.
  • Communicates compensation and benefits policies, programs, and changes to employees. Assists with conducting new hire orientation, employee education sessions, prepares informational materials, and addresses employee inquiries and concerns.
  • Supports the job evaluation process within the organization to determine their relative value and appropriate salary range and FLSA status. Assess job descriptions, responsibilities, and required qualifications to establish equitable compensation structures.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to compensation and benefits.
  • Assists with developing effective analytics and metrics to influence program direction and monitors impact and effectiveness.
  • Manages leave requests for medical, parental, FMLA, and disability.
  • Collaborates with third-party administrators or insurance providers for disability and coordinate return-to-work plans for employees after leave, including reviewing accommodations under the ADA.
  • Documents processes and ensures internal controls are maintained.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field required.
  • Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of three years of experience in compensation, benefits, or HR roles, including exposure to salary benchmarking, benefits administration, and compliance with labor laws is required.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to analyze data to identify trends and provide actionable insights for pay and benefit structures.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to stay up to date on emerging trends and best practices in total rewards to ensure the organization remains competitive in attracting and retaining top talent.
  • Solid understanding of employment law regulations, principles and practices related to compensation and benefits (i.e. ERISA, COBRA, ACA, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Equal Pay Act).
  • Strong Excel skills for data analysis, reporting, and creating compensation models.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to ensure accuracy in calculations and compliance reporting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with HR teams, management, and employees.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while prioritizing and meeting deadlines.
  • High level of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism.

Tools

  • Microsoft Office, HRIS (Paylocity and/or Success Factors preferred), compensation software.
  • Licenses/Certifications
  • Professional certification is a plus (CCP, CPB, CEBS, PHR, SPHR)

Working Conditions

  • Office setting within a manufacturing environment. May be exposed to loud machinery and dangerous chemicals when on the plant floor. Must be able to occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds unassisted.
