NRDC is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. Position Summary:
NRDC is seeking a Cooling & Heat Resilience Advocate who will play an active role in advancing NRDC's work on sustainable cooling and heat resilience initiatives across various states and cities in India. The incumbent will engage in comprehensive technical, policy, research, data analysis, and collaboration with experts to support evidence-based decision-making and policy formulation.
The position will focus largely on extreme heat, heat health, climate resilience and sustainable and energy efficient cooling issues in India. The position would also work on other project areas and provide research and analysis on the other core elements of the India initiative.

Responsibilities

    Conduct policy and technical research and analysis on sustainable cooling and resilience to extreme heat, especially in the developing country context and also internationally.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, partners to ensure project milestones are met in a time bound manner.
  • Participate in workshops, conferences, and seminars to present research findings and contribute to discussions on extreme heat and environmental health, cooling and energy efficiency.
  • Prepare clear and concise research reports, blogs, policy briefs, whitepapers, and presentations summarizing research findings and policy recommendations.
  • Work with internal & external stakeholders (such as government, industry, private players and academia) on effective dissemination & outreach strategies.
  • Support team activities including project implementation, planning and work area expansion strategies.
  • Contribute to policy and technical assistance to partners; participating in weekly calls, roundtables, and site visits.
  • Communicate and liaison internally through daily communication by phone, email and in-person to partners and colleagues internationally.
  • International and domestic travel for meetings, conferences, and roundtables

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, public policy, economics, environmental health or equivalent related experience
  • 2-4 years of previous work experience in energy/environmental or other policy work. Preferably in the developing country context.
  • Experience of work in climate change and clean energy topics such as extreme heat, urban climate resilience, sustainable cooling, energy efficiency, renewable energy.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects involving multiple people and deliverables, and to perform or quickly learn new tasks, systems, and technologies.
  • Ability to prioritize and efficiently execute many tasks, follow institutional procedures, and work independently with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects and shifting requests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of people on different projects.
  • Strict adherence to confidentiality requirements and discretion with sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of the Indian political system, economic structures, and socio-cultural landscape is preferred.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), in addition to knowledge of or ability to learn relevant industry and NRDC specific software and platforms.
  • Competence with and commitment to diversity and inclusion; ability to be an effective partner with diverse colleagues, leaders and partners.
  • Ability to occasionally travel approximately 30% annually

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. Internal equity will be reviewed and considered to determine a final offer. For this position, the salary range is $87,000 to $93,000.

NRDC operates under a hybrid work model. Employees are required to come to the office 8 days per month.
