Primary Purpose of Department
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte ( UNC Charlotte) Office of Emergency Management ( OEM) is responsible for the planning and coordination of the Institution's operational emergency preparedness, response and recovery from a disaster. OEM adheres to a comprehensive all-hazards, whole community approach to incident management based on the Federal Emergency Management Agency's ( FEMA) National Incident Management System ( NIMS).
Primary Purpose of Position
The position will coordinate all efforts related to the University's business continuity program to include working with the Director of Emergency Management to set strategic priorities; management of the business continuity planning management software (University Resiliency Planner); engaging individual departments in meetings and orientations; and guiding departments through the plan development process. The position will also support Emergency Operations Center ( EOC) activations through incident dependent roles.
Summary of Position Responsibilities

  • Coordinate business continuity efforts for the Institution
  • Work with offices/departments which require COOPs
  • Manage business continuity software
  • Lead after-action review process
  • Assist with technological support for the EOC
  • Support OEM initiatives as needed

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree and 1-3 years experience in business continuity and resiliency, emergency management, risk management, or related fields; or an
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Advanced degree in related field.
  • Five years experience in business continuity and resiliency (or related field).
  • Experience in emergency/disaster operations is highly beneficial.
  • Strong time management, organization, and communication skills.
  • Experience in drafting after action reports and improvement plans.
  • Experience with emergency management related software or other applicable systems.
  • Experience in IT or related field.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Applicable NIMS/ICS trainings.

CBCP (Certified Business Continuity Professional); CEM (Certified Emergency Manager); CPM (Certified Project Manager); ARM (Associate in Risk Management); CRM (Certified Risk Manager)
