Job Description and Duties

This is the entry, training, and full journey level for the series. Under close supervision, incumbents receive training in the technical work of processing, maintaining, and controlling inmate, youthful offender, and parolee records; prepare routine documents and records information relating to an inmates or youthful offenders classification, transfer, releases from, and return to a facility and other actions affecting legal status; assemble case records files; enter inmate, youthful offender, and parolee data in an automated system; file various documents in inmate, youthful offender, and parolee files; and answer inquiries from State, city, county, Federal, and private sector, law enforcement agencies, and departmental employees regarding inmate, youthful offender, and parolee records.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s). Individuals must specify on their application that they are applying for a Training and Development assignment.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

Individuals who are currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, eligible for reinstatement, have list or LEAP eligibility, are in the process of obtaining list eligibility, or have SROA and/or Surplus eligibility (please attach your letter, if available). SROA and Surplus candidates are given priority; therefore, individuals with other eligibility may be considered in the event no SROA or Surplus candidates apply. Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).
