Academic Tutor & Coach, SCPM

Pay rate: $25.77/hr

Position Summary:

Under the supervision and in coordination with the Academic Support, the Academic Tutor, and Coach, SCPM is responsible for preparing materials for and tutoring students identified by SCPM in Board Exam preparation. S/He will also be responsible for assisting to assess student readiness for board exams. The position is part-time and expected to be 10 hours or less between January - July.

While this position is not eligible for our regular employees' benefits, all RFU employees are eligible to accrue paid leave at a rate of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked per year. All RFU employees are also eligible to make unmatched contributions to voluntary supplemental pre-tax and post-tax retirement plans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement, lead, and coordinate boards exam preparation series for identified students at risk.
  • Meet in small groups of 10 or less students to provide tutoring content.
  • Provide individual boards advising and mentoring for students identified to be part of the boards prep tutoring
  • Work closely with SCPM and Academic Support to establish specific needs for academic support opportunities. Provide individual academic advising and counseling for students in academic difficulty.
  • Monitor individual student progression within program.
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking and large group presentations.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must achieve background check clearance.
  • Compliance with the current COVID19 vaccination policy.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Doctor of Podiatric Medicine or closely related field.
  • Passed APMLE Part 1 and Part 2 on the first attempt.
  • Experience in teaching and learning techniques and methodology.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills.
  • Computer skill proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspaces, and Zoom.
  • Ability to give interactive and engaging presentations to large and small groups of people in-person and virtually.
  • Knowledge of applicable university, state, and federal laws, regulation, policies, and procedures (including FERPA).
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively work with a diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of experience in course content instruction or delivery.

Typical Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Work is performed in a typical office environment and will be conducted in a climate-controlled office with extensive use of computers, telephones, and other office equipment.
  • Work is of a light physical demand with duties being performed while sitting, standing, or occasionally stooping.
