Summary:

The Government Relations Specialist is responsible for advocating for issues which align with the mission and vision of Akron Children's Hospital (ACH) at the local, state and federal level. This position is part of the Government Relations Department and reports to the Government Relations Manager.

Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for working under the direction of the Government Relations Manager to advance the advocacy objectives of ACH at the state and local level.

2. Assists with organizing advocacy educational briefings, grassroots advocacy campaigns and outreach to elected officials in accordance with established goals.

3. Works with government officials and staff at the state, federal and local levels; monitors and reports on legislation and committee activity.

4. Develops and executes a detailed annual work plan with the approval and oversight of the Manager of Government Relations.

5. Organize, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks in an accurate and timely manner.

6. Successfully perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Expertise:

1. Strong oral and written communication abilities with experience in public speaking necessary.

2. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with a commitment to the population served by ACH.

3. Must also maintain knowledge of complex activities and operations of state, federal and local legislative bodies, as well as governmental and community agencies.

4. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PPT, One Note) strongly preferred.

5. Ability to professionally interact with government officials, government employees and leadership and staff of advocacy organizations.

6. Must have the ability to work under stressful conditions, prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines in an appropriate, professional and timely manner.

7. Valid Ohio driver's license required for travel on a regular basis throughout ACH's service area, to Columbus and other travel in and out of Ohio.

Education and Experience:

1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Public Health, Political Science, Public Administration, or related field is required; Master's degree is preferred.

2. Certification: None.

3. Years of relevant experience: 3 to 5 years working independently with limited supervision is preferred.

4. Years of experience supervising: None.
