This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with minimal onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to Parnall located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance from this location or willing to relocate (relocation package available to those who qualify). General Summary of Job Responsibilities
The Substation Standards and Materials Team is responsible for the development and maintenance of all Consumers Energy's electric substation standards, specifications, materials, and large and major equipment procurement for all low- and high-voltage electric distribution substations. This position is an individual contributor with no direct reports and reports directly to the Substation Standards and Materials Senior Engineering Manager. The Principal Civil Engineer is a specialist in design, planning, and oversight for the construction of infrastructure complex projects. These can include renovation and construction of varying structures such as buildings, dams, pipelines, etc. The principal civil engineer will be the point of contact and responsible for ensuring department projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. They will lead a team of engineers and technicians on moderately complex projects, delegating work and responsibilities to lower-level engineers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Principal Civil Engineer will support the ongoing maintenance and development of our electric substation civil/structural standard drawings and specifications and continue investigating and developing new civil/structural standards and specifications to address emerging technologies and materials. They must be capable of designing and reviewing substation foundations and structural steel to maintain our electric substation standards and specifications. They will be a technical specialist in the structural and civil design elements to promote standardization, reliability and resilience. They shall have an advanced understanding of industry codes, standards, and industry trends, along with extensive knowledge of material being used on the electric distribution system. They will address time sensitive problems with adequate solutions to maintain the safety and reliability of the electric system. Additionally, they will be integrated with managing material/procurement issues and developing solutions to field-related concerns.
