This is a position for an independent Research Scientist studying the development of the brain in the Laboratory of Systems Neural Development. The candidate will develop, design, and implement research strategies in the lab related to funded research programs. This includes, but is not limited to, research model development and experimental design, including administrative and regulatory compliance, mouse line selection, breeding, and animal care strategies, anatomical experimental design and analysis, and electrophysiological experiment design and analysis. The candidate will supervise trainees and technical staff in the implementation of these strategies. This candidate is expected to draft and edit publications and grant proposals related to their research, as well as develop new directions in research and applications for funding. The position is hybrid-compatible. The position is part-time. Requiring 15-20 hours per week averaged over the year, but variable based on lab needs.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. |
Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Master's degree plus 5 years of experience or a PhD plus 2 years of experience in a related discipline to include at least 2 years of research and/or college level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. |

Preferred Qualifications: |
Preferred Candidates may have:
- PhD in Neuroscience or related field.
- 5 or more years of research and academic laboratory experience in developmental neuroscience, and the regulatory and scientific requirements for animal research using developing mice preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in biochemical and anatomical approaches to cellular neuroscience and in writing scientific papers, grant proposals, IACUC, and IBC protocols for mouse studies using transgenic technologies and viral-mediated gene transfer, preferably in developing animals.
