The Blueprint (Role Profile)

Reporting to the Test Lab Manager on the R&D Engineering Services team, this position is responsible for testing hand tools through the use of standard and custom test equipment (torque testers, tensile testers, life cycle, Rockwell hardness tester, corrosion chamber, etc.). Candidate is required to clearly document test results with accuracy and confidence. In addition, the position will fabricate, repair and construct custom test fixtures with direction from engineering. They will also create product prototypes to precise specifications in support of new product development and related engineering activities.

The Build (Responsibilities)

  • Follow a required protocol for testing to industry (ASME, SAE, ISO, etc.), customer or internal standards for hand tools.
  • Produce test reports that clearly document and communicate the test results, for use with internal and external customers.
  • Construct and repair fixtures and equipment required for testing or demonstrating product function.
  • Perform precision measurements on product using with calipers, height gauges, micrometers, and other devices, including coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and vision systems.

The Toolbox (Qualifications)

  • 2 years of experience with hands-on mechanical fabrication/assembly or in a mechanical testing environment.
  • Hands-on, mechanically inclined person who is highly motivated.
  • Ability to use basic electronic and mechanical measuring instrumentation.
  • Experience in the use of all types of hand tools and power tools (drill, impact, saw, etc.).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and able to write clear and accurate test reports.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills - the position will interface with engineering, sales, quality and marketing personnel.


Preferred Requirements:



  • Associates Degree in a technical related curriculum.
  • Experience in use of manual mill and manual lathe.
  • Experience reading engineering drawings, including the use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
