Job description

Coterra is hiring a Geosteering Specialist in our Midland, Texas office.

JOB SUMMARY

As a Geosteering Specialist at Coterra, you will serve as a technical expert on geosteering, horizontal well execution, and evaluations. Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing pre-spud modeling/feasibility studies, geosteering operations during the drilling phase, end-of-well analysis and any support needed as part of the larger project analysis. This position's main objective is to ensure proper placement of the borehole and requires direct collaboration with the subsurface and operations teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical expertise for the planning, execution, and post-well analysis of horizontal wells on which geosteering services are being utilized.

  • Model offset data to determine the feasibility of geosteering within reservoirs and given geological/physical constraints. Recommend best procedure for a successful wellbore.

  • Integrate with geology, geophysical, drilling, and completions teams for the planning and execution of the horizontal well programs.

  • Monitor real-time data, provide real-time interpretation, and execute directional decisions to ensure proper placement of the borehole within a specific target.

  • Give technical presentations to support geosteering services including feasibility studies, geosteering interpretations, and end-of-well analyses.

  • Function well in a team-based environment but be responsible for individual work products.

Job requirements

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • At least one year of experience using StarSteer or equivalent software.

  • Understanding of geology, LWD, and directional drilling.

  • Strong understanding of overall drilling operations.

  • Advanced computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Experience with real-time operations.

  • Understanding of the geologic characteristics of various domestic oil and gas drilling basins.

  • Broad knowledge of wireline logging technologies and operations.

  • Must be available to work 24/7 operations when needed

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 4 Year / Bachelors Degree Degree in Geology, Geosciences or related field

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant Professional experience with an E&P operator or mud-logging/Geosteering service company, and at least 1 year of wellsite geology and/or mud logging experience

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • 20% - 40% Must be able to travel to drilling locations in the field and travel for necessary training.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMAND

Work is typically performed both indoors and outdoors. Incumbents in this position must be able to physically and legally operate company owned vehicles. Employees must be able to perform work which requires walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping and climbing. Exposure to conditions such as extreme heat or cold is likely. Employee is required to physically visit areas where actual operations are occurring, such as drilling and completions locations or production sites. Personal protective equipment including, but not limited to head protection, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, and flame resistant clothing are required. Safety rules including OSHA and DOT requirements are strictly enforced. Employees must be willing to travel and work extended hours on short notice.
