Ameresco currently has an opening for a Project Engineer to join our Federal Engineering Team to develop and implement distributed energy, microgrid, and energy efficiency projects. This position is based in the Western US with a preference for candidates in the Phoenix or San Diego Metro Areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support project development and design efforts for distributed energy resource (DER) projects, especially those including solar PV, energy storage, and microgrids.

  • Coordinate visits to customer project sites to investigate and gather relevant project information and data.

  • Conduct engineering analysis to design preliminary layouts, model energy production, and develop preliminary cost estimates.

  • Support the preparation of conceptual and detailed engineering design and bid documents including narrative scopes of work, drawings, and specifications.

  • Write requests for proposal and evaluate 3rd party engineering firms for electrical, civil, and geotechnical disciplines.

  • Support the evaluation of construction subcontractor bids and equipment vendor proposals to determine best value selections optimized for performance, pricing, and warranty.

  • Prepare written content for technical proposals and reports. Present reports defining project progress, problems and solutions.

  • Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs.

  • Provide engineering support throughout all project phases (proposal, development, construction, commissioning, and operation).

  • Develop approaches for project commissioning (Cx) in collaboration with appropriate Ameresco staff.

  • Identify opportunities for energy efficiency upgrades at customer facilities. Ensure that project scopes achieve guaranteed energy and performance metrics, meet customer requirements, and comply with industry standards, practices, specifications, and codes.

  • Cultivate and maintain positive business relationships with colleagues, subcontractors, and customers.

  • Work with site Project Manager on ongoing contact, communication, and coordination with Ameresco customers and subcontractors in the design and construction phases, including project status updates and remedies for delays or other concerns.

  • Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure quality control and that projects installed per design documents are delivered on time and within budget while meeting or exceeding the customers' expectations.

  • Travel as required.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline from a four-year accredited college or university.

  • Minimum 5 years of prior experience in an engineering or project development role.

  • Ability to review confidential US security information.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with technologies such as solar PV, battery energy storage systems, cogeneration, microgrids, and power systems preferred.

  • Experience using whole building energy or solar PV modeling software preferred.

  • Experience with construction phase of project development preferred,

  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering principles associated with other energy technologies such as boilers, chillers, building automation systems, HVAC systems, building envelope, and water/steam distribution systems preferred.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical presentation skills.

  • Licensure or educational progresstoward Professional Engineer (PE).

  • Valid driver's license issued by state of residence and in good standing.
