The Martin Laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia is hiring a Lab and Research Technician 1-2 or a Laboratory Specialist, depending on qualifications and experience of the applicant. The Martin laboratory uses unbiased genetic screening systems both in vitro and in mouse models to address two main areas: Identifying targetable vulnerabilities in cells harboring genetic alterations in common cancer genes; Understanding how cancer cells adapt to avoid death due to the immune system. The long-term goal is to use these basic discoveries and translate their findings into therapeutic strategies to improve cancer treatments. The lab is in Pinn Hall at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Lab and Research Technician 1 Education: High school diploma or equivalent Experience: At least 1 year of lab experience, which may include student experience.Bachelor's degree will be considered in lieu of experience. Lab and Research Technician 2 Education: Associate's degree Experience:At least 2 years of lab experience which may include student experience.Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience. Lab Specialist Education: Bachelor's degree. Experience: 3 years of experience. 6 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree. PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
