Memorial Blood Centers (MBC.ORG), a division of Innovative Blood Resources (www.innovativebloodresources.org), has been saving and sustaining lives since 1948. We supply blood and blood components, state-of-the-art laboratory services, and biomedical expertise to area healthcare partners, national blood centers, biotechnology companies, research institutions, and international clients. Operating 10 donor centers and conducting hundreds of blood drives each month, we are proud to be an independent nonprofit that supplies over 30 area hospitals and more than a dozen air ambulances with life-saving blood-from our community, for our community.



Responsibilities

SUMMARY:

This position provides support to hospitals with patients requiring transfusion therapy by performing immunohematology testing on patient and donor samples, preparing transfusion testing reports, technical consultations, and transfusion medicine education. Precisely and accurately performs and interprets technical procedures to satisfy referrals and requests. Completes all ancillary duties including reporting of test results, sample processing, reagent preparation, and record keeping. Serves as consultant regarding resolution of patient testing, assists in development of new procedures, and participates in continuing education. Supports and promotes organizational goals, mission and vision.

Schedule Options:

2nd Shift, Monday - Friday 3pm - 11:30pm, with rotating call and weekends. Training will be on first shift.

JOB RESPONSIBLITIES:

    Accurately performs antigen typing and serological testing necessary to resolve referral problems or respond to customer requests in a timely manner. Accurately records and interprets test results, and maintains necessary documentation according to established procedures.
  1. Works closely with area transfusion services to resolve serologic problems, provide compatible blood products, and makes recommendations on selection of blood for patient transfusions, based on company policy. Provides consultation in a professional manner.
  2. Performs and manages platelet compatibility and crossmatch customer requests.
  3. Approaches and resolves serologic cases uniquely, using an extensive list of departmental procedures/policies.
  4. Accurately performs and documents quality control and maintenance procedures for test reagents and equipment; satisfactorily performs assigned proficiency testing.
  5. Complies with all established policies and procedures including testing, reporting protocols, safety practices, confidentiality policies, and personnel practices.
  6. Maintains and promotes teamwork and communication internally and externally.
  7. Participates in continuing education; documents required continuing education units.

The hourly rate for this position is $32 - $35/hr. (plus applicable shift differentials)

Qualifications

Education:

Medical Technologist with ASCP certification or Bachelor's degree in biological science with equivalent experience.

Experience:

0 - 2 years of relevant technical and service related experience.

Preferred:

Blood banking experience preferred
