JOB SUMMARY: An electrician with 1 to 2 years of experience performing electrical work in a shipyard/industrial environment in accordance with drawings and specifications. Analyzes and corrects electrical problems and repairs and overhauls electrical equipment and controls with the use of regular supervision and while always adhering to industry safety standards. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Plans details of working procedure by determining replacement needs or new material required and develops a logical approach to correct the problem according to specifications. 2. Analyzes circuits, wiring diagrams and drawings to install, repair, calibrate, service or replace electronic devices and systems. 3. Receives wiring diagrams, specifications, and instructions from supervisors covering emergency and scheduled repairs, installation, and electrical inspection work to be performed. 4. Performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical theory and principles, statutory codes, properties of materials and principles of operation of electrical equipment. Starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements. 5. Services electronic equipment by checking, testing, and replacing faulty components, circuits, printed circuit boards, and similar electronic devices. 6. Installs, repairs, and maintains communication cables, power distribution cables, then splicing pieces as required. 7. Fabricates parts if not commercially available, using machine and hand tools common to the trade. 8. Determines need for, analyzes, and makes necessary running adjustments, repairs, and overhauls. 9. Advises and cautions operators and mechanics about potential electrical problems and inherent dangers involved. 10.Notifies supervisor of potentially dangerous electrical equipment noted and corrective action taken. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 1. Required to have complete understanding of all safety requirements for work as an electrician with ECR&F 2. Required to know how to read a multimeter and operate a megger 3. Must be proficient with the use of hand tools, socket sets, wrenches, hacksaws, and power tools 4. Basic ability to read, interpret, and utilize blueprints and to submit correct disconnect sheets 5. Proficient at using temporary attachments 6. Basic understanding of 009-23 and 009-73 and all requirements 7. Proficient at installation and removal of electrical equipment and temporary service requirements 8. Ability to perform electrical inspections on electrical equipment (ie, power tools, light stringers, and extension cords) 9. Understanding of the WAF system for tag outs 10. Ability to accomplish the installation of basic electrical equipment (lights, connection boxes, controllers) 11. Ability to recognize tooling needs (which tools to use for which application) 12. Proficient at removal and installation of cables 13. Basic knowledge of EPSIM (Electric Plant Standard Installation Methods) 14. Ability to read and understand multimeter operation for Voltage, Ohmic, and Megger readings 15. Intermediate ability to use power tools (grinders, reciprocating saws, drills, etc) 16. Intermediate ability to use hand tools (hammers, punches, hacksaws, wrenches, sockets) 17. Ability to set up tools correctly prior to use 18. Knowledge of power tool safety (ability to correctly identify kick direction and pinch points) 19. Ability to install temporary services and fire boundaries and knowledge of correct voltages and chaffing requirements 20. Ability to learn shipbuilding standards (009-23, 009-73, 009-84) 21. Ability to learn basic electrical installations and cut in of cables 22. Knowledge of WAF and lockout tagout system for the yard and for all temporary service systems 23. Understanding of fire safety principles (hot work tickets, positioning fire watches, 35' rule, etc) 24. Ability to navigate onboard vessels to find work areas/backsides of work areas 25. Practical knowledge of industry safety standards/training JOB REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High school diploma or GED; and 1 to 2 years of experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 2. Valid state motor vehicle operator's permit to operate electrician's cart and forklift truck for installation jobs. 3. High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required. 4. High degree of attention and care required to prevent injury to others when responsible for flow of electrical power. 5. Must be able to gain access to military installations. 6. Must pass drug test and background check. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Ability to lift 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally. 2. Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs/vertical ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This is a physically demanding position and may accommodate some physical disabilities. Physical dexterity may be required when performing walk thru and inspection of job sites. In the performance of the walk thru you will be required to transverse steep stairwells, vertical ladders and bending or stooping thru tight spaces. There may be occasional lifting of materials weighing not more than 50 pounds. Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: This position works on the jobsite. There is exposure to hostile environments, loud noises, hazardous chemicals/fumes and airborne particles, smoke, extreme temperatures moving mechanical parts: high, precarious places.
