Job Summary

GateWay Community College is seeking a Program Analyst (Makerspace Wood Shop) for its Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM)-oriented Makerspace (PHOENIX FORGE) in downtown Phoenix. This 22,500-square-foot facility is open to the public as well as college students, faculty, and the staff of the Maricopa County Community College District.

Under general supervision, the Program Analyst will be responsible for the day-to-day technical operations of the Phoenix Forge wood shop, which will include safety training, occasional instruction, as well as assisting members with fabrication projects, direct supervision of part-time staff, shop maintenance, and fabrication for our program as needed. May also assist in other areas of the makerspace on occasion. This position will also be responsible for planning and coordination of the wood shop, development and implementation of program/project goals and objectives, leading workshops, research/analysis/development of presentation content, daily budget monitoring, and participation in hiring/discipline/termination activities. Provides professional staff support, process information, and program representation to students, faculty, staff, the public, vendors, and partners.

Essential Functions

30% - Management and coordination of the wood shop as a lead worker; assists wood shop users with all aspects of fabrication (using CNC and manual tools), craftsmanship, problem solving, design, and shop safety. Participates in content and curriculum development for workshops. Project coordination; develops and implements program/project goals and objectives; responds to inquiries, evaluates issues, recommends solutions; prepares presentations and program documentation; research and analysis; leads workshops; collaborates with others and provides professional staff support and program representation to members and partners.

30% - Supervises, plans, organizes, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of up to three temporary staff as lead worker; participates in hiring, and in collaboration with leadership as well as local HR assists with discipline, and termination activities; oversees shop volunteers and students; facilitates machine shop user community development and activities,

25% - Assists with budget preparation and daily monitoring; maintains shop records; manages resources and materials/consumables inventory, equipment reservations, maintenance, and repairs for the wood shop.

15% - Provides process and policy information related to rules and standards to students, faculty, staff, the public, and other college departments; enforces compliance with rules, policies, standards (including safety rules and procedures) for staff and members; conducts orientations and safety training as necessary; performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, business or public administration, or directly related field and two (2) years of related program management experience preferably in an educational setting.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

A. Two (2) or more years of experience using woodworking tools and equipment (proficient with carpentry, woodturning, furniture fabrication, CNC tools (router/lathe), manual shop tools).

B. One (1) or more years of teaching or training.

C. One (1) or more years of experience supervising employees, students, or volunteers.

D. Experience with providing training to diverse groups.
