SUMMARY: The Application Laboratory Manager is part of a global network of Lab managers for Personal Care supervised by the Global Business Development Director. He or she is managing the SNF Riceboro Cosmetic Application laboratory, understanding the behavior of the polymer in the cosmetic environment, and then developing and testing starting point formulation using the SNF portfolio of Personal Care polymers with a primary focus on skincare and hair care applications. The candidate will also be conducting technical training with American distributors and participate in exhibitions by giving lectures and presentations. The candidate will be part of the Innovation Team, which will have frequent meetings at the SNF Headquarters in France together with the R&D Teams. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understand the SNF product range with respect to the Personal Care market. Understand the list of customers, potential customers, and competitors in the NA market and lead the technical positioning of SNF products versus the competition.
- Assist in SNF North American sales growth and diversification by developing starting point formulations showing customers how to best use SNF Personal Care polymers.
- Obtain and evaluate external technical information on the possible use of SNF polymers in the cosmetic market and gather information on competitive polymers.
- Provide feedback to the R&D department on existing and potential customer requirements for new or existing products.
- Lead projects for evaluating new products in the Personal Care market.
- Perform stability testing and troubleshooting of all formulae.
- Understand the safe handling, health, and safety rules, and SDS's for products in our markets. Explain to customers the safe handling, storage, and use of SNF products. Comply with all safety practices and environmental regulations applicable to the customer site.
- Put together training programs to educate SNF Personal Care Salespeople and Distributors Salespeople on the use, features, and benefits of the SNF portfolio of Personal Care polymers.
- Support SNF Sales Managers by participating in joint sales calls and following up on all customer product evaluations, validations, technical training needs, and plant audits.
- Support SNF Sales initiatives by representing SNF at Trade Shows, Technical Symposiums, and local Trade Associations meetings.
- Actively participate in the North American Trade Association's leadership position and/or committees as the Personal Care face of SNF.
- Understand the global interfacing of SNF products, applications, and functions, including patents, IP, R&D, technical, sales, and production requirements.
- Understand the environmental legislation and trends relative to Personal Care products and evolve accordingly. Explain to customers the impact of environment legislation as it relates to SNF products.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- The position reports locally to the SNF Holding Company Technical Director and globally to the Director of Business Development.
- This position has 1 -2 direct reports.
- Choices of formulation development projects, new polymer evaluation, and prioritization of projects will be coordinated with the Personal Care Global Market Development Manager based in Andrezieux.
- The Formulation and Application Lab Manager must interface with R&D, Technical, Quality, Sales, Legal, including patents and IP, Regulatory Compliance, Customer Service, and Customers.
Requirements
- A Master of Science in Cosmetic Science or in Chemistry is required.
- A minimum of 5 to 10 years as a Laboratory Manager with cosmetic applications and formulations development experience is required.
- Thorough knowledge of polymers and additives mixtures chemistries in the Personal Care market is required.
- Expertise in Hair and Skin Care formulation and application.
- Ability to formulate Hair and Skin Care Products.
- Position requires excellent organizational, interpersonal, communications including listening and presentation skills.
- Must be Microsoft office literate at the intermediate to advanced level.
- Bi-Lingual preferred.
- Ability to travel at least 20% of the time.
