Physical Scientist

The Physical Scientist will lead research initiatives exploring the effects of conservation practices for agricultural sustainability.

This position requires the ability to be granted a USAccess clearance.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Physical Scientist: $87,000 - $91,000

Pay commensurate with experience.

Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.

Physical Scientist Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead research initiatives exploring the effects of conservation practices for agricultural sustainability.
  • Analyze satellite and field data to assess winter cover crop performance and crop residue cover.
  • Develop methods for integrating remote sensing data into soil erosion models.
  • Collaborate effectively within a dynamic research team.
  • Publish scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Physical Scientist Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • PhD in geographical sciences, remote sensing, or related field.
  • Expert in remote sensing data processing and analysis (optical, radar, lidar).
  • Experience with automating workflows and satellite imagery download APIs.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage software code (R, Python, IDL).
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Strong record of research publications and potential for grant procurement.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaborative research environments.
  • Interest in agricultural field data collection is a plus.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
