Summary:

Enterprise Analytics is building a data-driven culture and promoting data-based decision-making across all teams to make the best use of HHMIs' resources and move science forward.

As a team member of Enterprise Analytics, the Full Stack Developer provides expertise in developing analytics solutions that enable efficient and accurate decision-making to further HHMI's mission. This position works with teams across HHMI to understand their analytical needs, deploy solutions that meet those needs, and assess their impact on improving processes and redefining the decision-making process.

The Full Stack Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining BI solutions that cover the front-end and back-end processes using a modern technology stack.The role requires a good mix of data modeling, engineering, analysis, visualization, and management.

This role will follow our hybrid model, which includes reporting in person to our headquarters in Chevy Chase, MD, one day each week and reporting to our Janelia Research Campus in Ashburn, VA, one day each week.

What you'll do:

Database Modeling:

  • Develop and manage data models, cloud data warehouses, and data marts.

Data Management:

  • Design interfaces and handle ETL processes.

  • Optimize queries for performance.

  • Follow data governance guidelines.

  • Maintain documentation and collaborate with users to resolve complex analytics requirements.

  • Monitor data loads and ensure high uptime.

Data Analytics and Tableau:

  • Collaborate with business leaders to understand reporting needs.

  • Work with analysts to build dashboards and analytical solutions.

  • Design and implement dynamic reports and visualizations.

  • Develop self-service analytics capabilities and resolve performance issues.

Project Management:

  • Support business process analysis and participate in sprint planning.

  • Coordinate with delivery teams and present sprint demos.

Cognos Application Support:

  • Maintain and support the Cognos environment.

  • Build cubes for financial planning and ensure optimal performance.

Relationship Management:

  • Maintain excellent working relationships with internal customers and IT teams.

  • Interface regularly with the user community to understand their needs.

What you bring:

  • Bachelors in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or related field with 5-7 years of experience, or Masters degree in the same field with 3-5 years of experience.

  • Expertise in Data preparation tools like ODI, Alteryx, Tableau prep, Python, and PL/SQL.

  • Expertise with BI/visualization tools like Tableau, Cognos and Power BI.

  • Expertise with Cognos cube designer, framework manager, and basic administration.

  • Knowledge of data modeling concepts, such as entity relationship models, normalization/de-normalization, star schemas, and multi-dimensional cubes.

  • Experience with Agile project methodologies and tools like Jira, Confluence, and Git.

  • Familiarity with and working knowledge of data science, AI/machine learning, and generative AI toolset.

  • Working knowledge of cloud data warehouses and the cloud-native development stack.

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills to analyze data and reports, conduct research, develop plans, estimate effort, document, and communicate information to others.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, such as diplomacy, empathy, and active listening, combined with superb communication, reflecting a strong orientation towards customer service and responsiveness.

  • Proficiency in managing multiple tasks and projects in a timely manner, demonstrating effective organizational skills.

  • Commitment to Interpersonal and technical skills development through training, webinars, and conferences.

  • Excellent judgment skills are required due to the possible use of confidential data.

Physical Requirements

Compensation Range

$112,178.40 (minimum) - $140,223.00 (midpoint) - $182,289.90 (maximum)

Pay Type:

Annual

HHMI's salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
