Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Buyer to be based in Wayne Michigan. Reporting to Operations Manager, the Buyer will be responsible for purchasing both direct and indirect material, assessing supplier performance, supporting and promoting Continuous Improvement, and interfacing cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Finance, Plant Leadership, Product and Process Engineering, Facilities, Safety, and Maintenance to support these activities.

What you'll do:

The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience purchasing direct material for manufacturing operations. Experience in a lean manufacturing environment or business system-based company is a plus.

What you'll bring:



  • 1-3 years of experience as a Direct Materials Buyer for Manufacturing operations
  • AS400 and/or Oracle JD Edwards MRP systems experience a plus
  • Strong vendor relationship management skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office competency
  • Adaptability to changing business demands
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Familiarity with forecasting, lead times, safety stock, cycle counting, inventory management, and using an ERP system to assess needs / issue PO's

Within 3 months, you'll:



  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy
  • Gain an understanding of your team.
  • Gain an understanding of the processes and results the team is expected to deliver
  • Learn and use the tools and systems needed to effectively perform your job functions
  • Assess your personal training needs and communicate those needs to you Manager


Within 6 months, you'll:



  • Develop a solid rapport with key vendors
  • Embark upon any additional training required for your role.
  • Hone your skills as it relates to the tools and systems you use in your daily role
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement activities related to Plant Operations


Within 12 months, you'll:



  • Be capable of training for a Buyer role
  • Begin to assess any desired development roles
  • Have meaningful performance conversations with your manager
  • Be able to resolve any Purchasing related issues quickly and safely
