Overview

Escorts or transports patients within hospital or other medical facility by performing the following duties. Responsible for providing front line activities to include registration, and overall support services to patients and guests. Assists with reception duties and image storage system tasks. Operates the radiology information systems. Assists with patient exams as requested by technologist, nurse, and physician. May be asked to flex hours/shifts as needed to support the needs of the dept.
Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Determines patient name and DOB, destination, mode of travel, time, and other data, following written or oral instructions.
  • Directs or escorts incoming patients from designated areas.
  • Cares for patient's belongings accompanying patient.
  • Assists patient in walking to prevent accidents by falling, or transports non-ambulatory patient with wheelchair or cart.
  • Transports patient, alone or with assistance, in bed, patient cart, or wheelchair to designated areas within facility during patient stay.
  • Uses Epic to check in patients
  • Delivers messages, mail, medical records, and other items.
  • Utilizes appropriate scripting, barriers and patient identifiers.
  • Maintains, cleans all transport equipment.
  • Checks O2 tanks to ensure they are operational, removes tanks when they are at 10%or lower to be filled.
  • Assists in reception by answering phones, greeting and registering patients for imaging exams. Preparing images to be sent to other facilities. Importing CD and VPN images into PACS.
  • Uses patient identifiers.
  • Observes and follows all universal precautions and infection control techniques.
  • Works with unit staff to assist patient upon return from radiology exam.Disconnects patient telemetry, pulse oximeter and blood pressure cuff as needed before transporting patient and informs appropriate staff that the patient has been disconnected from monitoring equipment.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; one to three months related experience and/or training preferred.


Certification and Licensure

Approved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days.


Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of infection control, hand washing, barrier devices.
Demonstrate use of patient transport and lifting equipment, 02 equipment, infusion pumps, foley catheters, IV and all fluid lines, chest tubes and wound vacs.
Special need patient transport such as seizure watch and pediatrics.
Insure that patient transport equipment is maintained.
Assists technologists with setting up exams and patient positioning.

Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software: Payroll systems and Word Processing software.
