Overview

Illinois CancerCare is seeking Health and Safety Coordinator to join our team! The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing employee health & safety at work. The position completes tasks to uphold & aid in our goal of ensuring a safe working environment and preventing injuries and accidents.


Responsibilities

  1. Daily coordination, organization, and response to on-site situations such as emergency concerns and threats, weather, pest control, lift team calls, front desk (upset visitors, policy concerns, and pets), and hazardous waste.
  2. Guide and support operational leaders, business leaders, and the workforce around implementing safe thinking and safe systems. .
  3. Review, document, and act on all employee and patient incidents received.
  4. Monitor and record sharps injuries and lab checks.
  5. Update and maintain the pest spray log including communication with maintenance.
  6. Develop new and review existing policies and procedures.
  7. Coordinate and perform tasks for Hazardous Material policy such as Daniels and Heritage pick up and medical waste manifest.
  8. Continuous monitoring of working conditions: weekly, monthly, and annual facility and eye wash logs.
  9. Regular travel to clinics and as needed.
  10. Facilitate new employee onboarding process for safety.
  11. Coordinate education and training for Volunteers.
  12. Plan and run the safety meetings.
  13. Responsible for facilitating compliance with occupational health and safety (OSH) guidelines. Adhere to and keep abreast of all related laws, rules, and regulations. Communicate changes or updates.
  14. Advise, remind, and lead employees on various safety-related topics.
  15. In conjunction with HR, coordinate general liability, work comp, and other safety and health-related items.
  16. In conjunction with HR and Accounting, coordinate Insurance Policies.
  17. In conjunction with Lab Management, help with specialized testing and records maintenance.
  18. Prepare education and training regularly and adapt to needs.
  19. Prepare and present reports on accidents and violations and help determine causes.
  20. Complete and report OSHA form 300.
  21. Provide annual TB risk and report.
  22. Be familiar with and prepared for Fire inspection.
  23. Coordinate compliance with food truck vendors and inspections.
  24. Safety data sheet review and coordination.
  25. Track and store medical device corrections.
  26. Provide support for risk assessments.
  27. In conjunction with the Director, enforce preventative measures.
  28. Identify process bottlenecks and offer timely solutions.
  29. Verify if all the employees are acting in adherence to rules and regulations.
  30. Oversee the lift team program.
  31. Oversees the weather policy and active shooter plan.
  32. Overseas evacuation plan, evacuation chair, and sled teams.
  33. Maintain information posted on the Safety page of the employee intranet.
  34. Coordinate and perform Respirator FIT testing.
  35. Coordinates regulatory responses
  36. Serve on various committees including safety, compliance, and others as needed.
  37. Collaborate with USON Risk and Safety Teams. Attend quarterly meetings.
  38. Reviews and approves invoices.
  39. Meets regularly with the Director of Diagnostic Services and monthly with the Diagnostic Servies Liaison and team.
  40. Perform all other duties as requested or required.

SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  2. Requires sitting at desk, standing, and walking for extensive periods.
  3. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25-50 pounds.
  4. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
  5. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  6. Requires frequent bending, reaching, squatting, stooping.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS/TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Potential exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, chemotherapy, biohazardous specimens & wastes and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

  12. Working knowledge of safety management information systems.

Qualifications

Degree in occupational safety & health or another health care or science-related field.

Two or more years of experience at a healthcare organization relating to safety, healthcare professional, or a similar role.

A certificate in occupational health and safety preferred.

Experience in lift training and Basic life support preferred.
