Overview

Cares for patients in the hospital setting under direction of nursing staff, by performing the following duties, supporting the nursing philosophy. May include weekends, holidays, day, evening, night, and/or on-call hours. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

CNA 2 (Advanced) is required to meet unit competency and orientation requirements as defined for CNA 1 (Basic) role, additionally demonstrating competency in:
* Training/precepting new partners in collaboration with unit educator
* Blood Glucose Monitoring (BGM) with lab personnel
* Bladder scanning procedure reviewed
* Bladder scanner training complete (check off sheet for competency)
* Attaching patient to remote telemetry or bedside cardiac monitor
* Managing and reporting collection devices:
* Colostomy, ileostomy or other fecal management systems: care and output measures
* Indwelling catheters: care and output measures
* Nasogastric tubes to suction
* Surgical drains under direction of supervising RN
* Competent in completing vital signs: Manual process for blood pressure and required reporting of abnormal values to supervising RN
* Discontinue invasive devices under the direction of the supervising RN:
* Indwelling (Foley) catheters
* Nasogastric tubes
* Peripherally inserted intravenous catheters
* Similar devices as appropriate

Education and Experience

Completion of CNA certificate program

Certification and Licensure

Current CNA certificate in applicable state.
Approved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, hear, and use hands to handle, finger, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, steep, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
