The basics of this position:

The Online campus at STLCC is seeking a temporary full-time faculty member to teach online Chemistry (CHM 101- Fundamentals of Chemistry) for the Spring 2025 term. This position is for a temporary full-time faculty for the Spring 2025 term (January 13, 2025 - May 19, 2025). The new hire and assigned rank will depend on the candidate's qualifications and teaching experience.

The temporary Chemistry faculty member will be expected to teach CHM 101 - Fundamentals of Chemistry online using college content, mentor students, fulfill administrative duties as required, and serve on online campus committees as appropriate. This position is responsible for teaching courses in accordance with St. Louis Community College (STLCC) curriculum requirements and meeting STLCC Standards and Mission. In addition, the faculty member is to teach and facilitate a meaningful learning experience of the course competencies in the curriculum, proactively supporting all facets of STLCC mission, and working with key members of the academic team to support student success, as well as, fostering and encouraging an online culture of learning through appropriate distance delivery mechanisms.

What you'll do:

Full-time online Faculty duties and responsibilities normally include:



  • Formal course contact teaching hours including required set office hours (online)
  • Preparation and planning for instructing assigned classes in accordance with course objectives using college approved content.
  • Use of the College's learning management system for all course activities unless otherwise approved by Online Education
    Delivery of course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered
  • Observation and evaluation of student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes and providing feedback in a timely manner on student progress
  • Maintaining required College records and submitting required reports/documentation by all published due dates
  • Completing all College required training including certification for teaching online
  • Assistance in student academic advisement
  • Participation in departmental selection of course texts, instructional equipment, library books and non-print resource materials
  • Participation in departmental development, evaluation and revision of course objectives and outlines, instructional strategies, and systems of evaluation of student learning.


Education, experience, and other requirements:

Master's degree in Chemistry or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate hours in a combination of the qualifying fields. (Qualifying fields: chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, science education (content specific). A minimum of three years of online teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Quality Matters certification.
  • Experience with Canvas learning management system.
  • Experience using a variety of technologies and resources to integrate distance learning best practices into course design and instruction.
