The Faculty of Arts and Sciences are the largest academic unit at Rutgers-Camden, delivering a wide array of degree programs at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels in the humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and fine arts. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences includes three schools: the College of Arts and Sciences, University College, and the Graduate School.
Posting Summary
Rutgers University-Camden School of Faculty Arts & Sciences-Fine Arts seeks a Technical Theater Coordinator. Under the general direction of the VMPA Technical Supervisor, the Theater Coordinator oversees all technical functions of the Gordon and Black Box theatre, including sound, lighting, set design and construction. The Theater Coordinator will support the Technical Supervisor in the use and maintenance of the theatre and other campus facilities for event specific needs, assists in coordinating the use of facilities for internal and external users; collaborates with other departments regarding specific technical needs for productions and events, oversees, and directs theater staff and volunteers. The Theater Coordinator assists the Supervisor in staffing and supervising all events in the theater spaces, including internal and external events.
The Technical Theater and Event Coordinator assists the Technical Supervisor of VMPA in support of activities related to the Gordon Theatre and Black Box Theatre, Rutgers University-Camden. This position provides technical oversight, planning and implementation of lighting, stage, sound, and scenic design. Working with the Technical Supervisor, VMPA staff, faculty, and part-time employees - supports productions and events. The incumbent will provide technical support and planning to facilitate productions and events in a timely and efficient manner. In addition, they assist the Supervisor in upholding the safe operation of production spaces and scene shop, assuring all personnel and students fully understand the rules, regulations, and protocols. They maintain work areas and all supplies and equipment used in the scene shop and production spaces. The Technical Theater Coordinator assists the Technical Supervisor in planning for and supervising annual maintenance of the Gordon Theater and Black Box Studio.
* This position depends on the availability of ongoing funding. If the funding is reduced or discontinued the role may be modified or eliminated.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent combination education and/or experience plus two years' experience. (certification)
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent combination education and/or plus two years' experience in scenic construction, rigging, tool maintenance and repair or an equivalent combination of background/course work in scenic construction and theater arts. Knowledge of scenic construction (both wood and steel), safe use of tools, theatrical rigging, industry standard of safe practices. Requires the ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and guests. Able to work on their own initiative and to solve problems.
Ability to work nights, weekends, or off-hours with advance notice to support activities of the theatre.
Preferred Qualifications
Associates Degree or bachelor's degree in Theatre preferred.

Environment: Office, theatre, and stage environment; exposure to noise, dust and electrical energy; work with machinery and tools; work at heights on scaffolding and ladders.
Physical: Sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting and operate office equipment; work with and around equipment and machinery; perform physically demanding technical duties; walk, stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; moderate or light lifting and carrying; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to work at heights on ladders and catwalks
