Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for the department of Neurosurgery at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position at the Neurosurgery Department, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the lab of Dr. Salman Qasim. The Qasim lab leverages intracranial brain implants in neurosurgery patients who consent to perform cognitive tasks, to record in-vivo neural data from the human brain and link it to critical cognitive and behavioral functions (e.g. memory formation). This is an interdisciplinary position at the cross-section of cognitive neuroscience, electrophysiology, neural engineering, and data analytics.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Collecting behavioral and electrophysiological data in the clinical environment.
  • Writing replicable code for analyzing behavioral and neural data (e.g. modeling behavior, time series analysis, statistical inference).
  • Writing manuscripts to communicate project results, submitting to journals, and presenting at conferences.
  • Submitting funding proposals.
  • Mentoring students in the lab.
  • Ability to work independently.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • PhD degree in biomedical engineering, neuroscience, cognitive science or a closely related field.
  • Experience in collecting and analyzing neurophysiological recordings (in any species).

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong data analysis and scientific programming skills in MATLAB and/or Python.
  • Solid background in experimental design, statistics and scientific writing.
  • Willingness to work in a clinical research environment.
  • Excellent time-management, written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills with strong attention to detail.
