Essential Job Duties |
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive
Waste Reduction and Recycling Program Specialist to join our team. This role will support the
Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling in planning and implementing a wide range of waste management initiatives across the University. The Specialist will
manage key programs focused on waste diversion, recycling, and composting, contributing to the University's goal of achieving 70% waste diversion. If you have a passion for sustainability, waste management, and program development, we encourage you to apply and help us drive innovative waste reduction solutions.
Key Responsibilities and duties include but not limited to:
- Manage the Compost Facility and Research Cooperative
- Supervise and lead the Waste Diversion and Recycling Team
Oversee daily collections and implement cost-effective recycling and diversion programs- Develop and manage special waste diversion programs for hard-to-recycle materials
- Coordinate waste management efforts for campus construction and demolition projects
- Market the Compost Facility to students, researchers, and staff for research and grant opportunities
- Collaborate with campus partners to enhance waste reduction strategies and initiatives
- Use AIM, Microsoft Office, and other University systems for technical and administrative duties
Develop, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of services and programs by compiling and analyzing data, and submitting annual reports and required permits

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
|
Other Required Qualifications |
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and the general public
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and other communications related to work assignments and other matters
|
Preferred Qualifications |
- Ability to use computer software such as Excel, Access, Word, AiM, etc. to compose reports and gather information
- Technical and operational knowledge of waste management programs in the areas of diversion, reuse, recycling and landfill disposal
- Experience planning, coordinating broad range of programs and services at a University level and across multiple units
- Experience supervising a team
