Missouri School of Journalism - Jonathan B. Murray Center for Documentary Journalism

Job Description

The Alumni Coordinator position is responsible for leveraging the growing alumni network of the Jonathan B. Murray Center for Documentary Journalism to support current students in the program. The Alumni Coordinator oversees a mentorship program connecting current students with alumni, coordinates events to bolster those connections, and helps select student projects to support after graduation with the Method M Films Fund. Furthermore, the Alumni Coordinator develops professional opportunities for current Murray Center students by developing a festival strategy for students' capstone films, producing a newsletter on Murray Center events, and periodically visiting with Murray Center students and guest lecture classes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the Murray Center Alumni Network: keeping in touch with alumni and connecting them with current students for mentorship and work opportunities.
  • Organizing the Murray Center Alumni Conference, an annual one-day conference every February for current students to learn from various alumni-led panels.
  • Help manage awards from the Method M Films Fund to support the development of Murray Center alumni films, and involving current students in those projects.
  • Manage film-submission strategy for Murray Center students' capstone films: liaise with festivals and develop relationships with film programmers.
  • Produce a monthly Murray Center newsletter for alumni and current students to stay abreast of Murray Center events and student/alumni achievements.
  • Visit Murray Center classes every semester to guest lecture about the industry, alumni opportunities and professional skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Shift

This is benefit-eligible, .75 FTE (30 hour) position. Monday-Friday, with some nights and weekends when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in the film industry and familiarity with the documentary film landscape
  • Background in event planning and coordination
  • Adept at taking initiative and planning and managing projects
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000

Grade: GGS-10
