Summary of Position
The Assistant Director of Student Accessibility Services ( SAS) is an important part of the SAS Team. The Assistant Director works closely with the Director of SAS to help ensure student accommodations are approved and enacted in alignment with the Americans with Disability Act ( ADA) and the ADA Amendments Acts ( ADAAA), Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Fair Housing Act, OCR/ DOJ letters, regulations, guidance, and relevant case rulings. They also work closely with the Director to ensure departmental practices are both inclusive and accessible for all.
The Assistant Director works closely with students across all UNH Campuses ( UNH Durham, CPS Manchester, CPS Online, UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law) to develop, plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate services for students with disabilities. This includes helping students throughout the interactive accommodations process, assisting faculty and other UNH personnel in implementing accommodations, providing on-going supports for students with complicated accommodation needs, assisting students with technology related needs, and managing specific services such as captions and interpreters.
The Assistant Director is seated on the Durham campus, but will have occasional travel to other campuses as needed.

Other minimum qualifications
Master's degree in counseling, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, special education or related discipline, and 4 years of experience working with students with disabilities, or Bachelor's degree and 6 years of relevant experience within higher education.
Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the post-secondary environment working with students with disabilities.
  • Experience working with non-traditional students.
  • Experience working with undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Experience supporting students that are accessing their education both in-person and online.
  • Experience supporting students through the interactive accommodation process.
  • Knowledge of a range of different disabilities and the impact of disability within the higher education context.
  • Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Housing Act, and other applicable laws. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
  • Knowledge of Assistive Technology.

Duties / Responsibilities
Job Duties


Duty/Responsibility

  • As outlined within SAS policies and procedures, assist students throughout the interactive accommodation process.
  • Advise students about SAS policies and procedures as well as policies and procedures across UNH campuses.
  • Review and evaluate documentation related to students' disabilities. Meet with students to discuss their accommodation needs and their requests.
  • Based on documentation and student self-report, approve student accommodations and plan as needed.
  • Support students in communicating accommodations to their instructors.
  • Maintain and update confidential files on each student.
  • Follow-up with student or faculty related to accommodations and Assistive Technology (AT).



Duty/Responsibility

  • Provide on-going support and coordination of services for students across all UNH campuses.
  • Provide coaching and guidance as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with instructors to ensure accommodations are effectively implemented.
  • Provide support with specific accommodations processes.



Duty/Responsibility

  • Support the Director in overseeing the day-to-day operations of SAS.
  • Review and improve processes and procedures.
  • Work closely with Disability Specialists to ensure best practices are implemented consistently.
  • Support effective usage of our accommodation management system, Accommodate.
  • Support staff training and development.



Duty/Responsibility

  • Act as liaison and advocate with the University Community including faculty and administrators, as appropriate.
  • Present information about the SAS office or other relevant topics to the campus community and/or prospective students.
  • Developing training for campus community members and key stakeholders.
  • Attend orientations and other campus events as an SAS liaison.



Duty/Responsibility

  • Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Research, editing and updating office materials.
  • Develop resources for campus partners and relevant stakeholders.
  • Analyze student and other SAS data and prepare regular reports.
  • Regularly attend professional development trainings related to changes in best practices and legislative changes.
  • Provide support to SAS Team members.
