Patient Safety and Quality Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs functions and manages activities related to infection control and infection surveillance throughout Denver Health.

Essential Functions:
  • Collects and analyzes infection data. (20%)
  • Develops and reviews policies and procedures. (20%)
  • Educates healthcare workers, patients and families on how to reduce infection risks. (15%)
  • Applies epidemiological principles, including activities directed at improving patient outcomes using implementation science. (15%)
  • Evaluates products and procedures. (10%)
  • Consults on infection risk assessment, prevention, and control strategies (includes activities related to occupational health, construction, and emergency management). (10%)
  • Implements changes mandated by regulatory, accrediting, and licensing agencies (includes reporting communicable diseases to health departments). (10%)

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree nursing, epidemiology, public health or other healthcare-related field Required

Work Experience:
  • 1-3 years related experience Required

Licenses:

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge and familiarity with infection prevention principles and practices.
    • Knowledge and familiarity of medical terminology and microbiology.
    • Ability to apply critical thinking to complex situations and issues.
    • Ability to influence and persuade others.
    • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other internal and external team members to ensure timelines are met.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent competing demands.
    • Comfort and skill using electronic medical record (EMR) software and performing chart review.
    • Comfort and skill collecting, organizing, managing, displaying, interpreting and presenting data.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
