About the Job

Description of Position
The Security Supervisor is a uniformed, non-sworn representative of the Department of Public Safety. The Security Supervisor is responsible for direct management, discipline, development, and safety of University Security's front-line, uniformed employees. This includes Security Monitors, Security Advisors, and Lead Security Advisors. This position reports to the Security Operations Manager within the University of Minnesota, Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Hours:1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift needed

Pay range: $27 - $30 per hour DOE

Responsibilities / Essential Functions

70% Employee Oversight and Supervision
* Conduct regular inspections of employees at their work location to monitor service quality,
ensure adherence to procedures, and maintain safety
* Document performance-related observations to support employee reviews, recognition, and
progressive discipline
* Lead, coach, and answer questions to improve employee confidence and overall effectiveness
* Coordinate, oversee, and, at times, conduct on-the-job training for uniformed employees to ensure that all are properly prepared to succeed in their respective roles
* Monitor call-offs and absences, directing on-duty personnel to prioritize delivery of the most
critical services
* Respond to emergencies to ensure procedures, safety precautions, and communication plans are followed

30% Operations Support
* Create, communicate, and update employee schedules to support Security Operations Manager
* Distribute critical information to front-line employees quickly and accurately
* Communicate regularly with the Public Safety Emergency Communication Center (PSECC)
employees to promote effective coordination with other DPS units.
* Identify and help resolve problems involving employee pay, schedules, conflicts, work
instructions, and equipment

This job may be designated as essential.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
* Ability to manage conflict respectfully and constructively
* Ability to work independently and with limited direction
* Able to use discretion and maintain confidentiality

Required Qualifications
* BA/BS plus at least 2 years of related experience or a combination of related education and work
experience to equal at least 6 years.
* Valid driver's license
* Availability and willingness to work evenings and weekends to oversee nightly operations
* Able to pass a background check

Essential Qualification: Regular attendance is an essential qualification for this position.

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working and supervising security in a higher education setting
* Combination of related education and work experience to equal at least six (6) years in
law enforcement, security-related field, or management-related field
