The School of Public Health Division of Biostatistics and Health Data Science (BHDS) is seeking applications for two full-time Biostatisticians (9791BO Research Professional 5-Biostatistics) to join the Coordinating Centers for Biometric Research (CCBR). Starting Salary Range: $95,850 - $110,580 annually, dependent upon the selected candidate's relevant qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

This position will have a hybrid work option with a minimum of 2 days onsite during core business hours. Position Description:
Master's level biostatisticians at the CCBR perform a variety of tasks related to the design, conduct and analysis of studies. They work closely with others in the CCBR, including data management, drug management, regulatory/safety, and administrative staff, and with clinical researchers around the world. At any given time during the planning and conduct of a study, tasks performed will vary. Usually, master's level of biostatisticians will work on a study from its development until it is complete, and results have been disseminated.

Overall responsibilities for this position include:

  • 40% Time -- Collaboration with clinical sites, monitoring data collection, participation on calls and training
  • 35% Time - Data analysis including preparation of interim analysis reports and work on manuscripts and presentations for conferences and publications
  • 25% Time - Protocol-related activities, such as collaboration on data collection plans, protocols, procedure manuals and case report forms.

Tasks for a new study may include:

  • Drafting the data collection plans
  • Creating case-report forms (CRFs)
  • Drafting procedure manuals and other protocol materials
  • Training sites on study protocols and procedures
  • Carrying out interim and final analyses.
  • Participation on calls and in meetings to write protocols and statistical analysis plans

Tasks for ongoing and completed studies may include:

  • Preparation of interim analyses for an independent data and safety monitoring board (DSMB)
  • Data quality assurance (QA) including writing reports that are regularly updated
  • Serving as point of contact for questions from staff at clinical sites.
  • Data analyses to support the preparation of multiple scientific presentations and publications.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics, or related fields (with some research training)
  • Demonstrated competence using R and/or SAS statistical software
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written communication
  • Experience working independently
  • Ability to manage and track multiple requests and projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace

About the Department

The Coordinating Centers for Biometric Research (CCBR) in the Division of Biostatistics and Health Data Science in the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota has an experienced team that carries out large scale international clinical trials and observational studies funded by the National Institutes of Health. Ongoing research includes trials to prevent and treat infectious (HIV/AIDS, influenza, Ebola, and COVID-19) disease and chronic (cardiovascular disease and lung) disease. The annual budget for this work exceeds $50 million; the staff of the CCBR, established 1985, includes approximately 65 faculty, staff, and graduate students, including senior data management and systems design professional and biostatisticians.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $95,850 - $110,580 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
