As part of the Cloud Infrastructure Acquisition (CIA) organization, the Energy Team supports datacenter interconnection, energy supply contracts, and/or renewable energy and/or carbon removal contracts with utilities and renewable energy developers. Additionally, the team leads regulatory and policy strategy development with utilities, regulators, and stakeholders important to datacenter and clean energy infrastructure delivery. Advancing Environmental Justice (EJ) and supporting and equitable energy transition is a core component of the team's work. ResponsibilitiesModel and analyze energy supply agreements, electric power markets, and financial forecasts needed to support power sourcing strategies in the United States to ensure optimized power costs, and support regular business reporting to finance, legal, and other infrastructure, planning and acquisition teams.Support the negotiation of energy supply agreements and electric tariffs to secure power infrastructure while also delivering on Microsoft's sustainability commitments.Support data center energy initiatives through due diligence and internal business reviews.Support the Renewable Energy Origination, CDR Origination, Asset Management and Risk teams with the ongoing management of a large portfolio of renewable energy and carbon removal contracts.Route, track, review, and monitor key contracts, agreements, and other instruments needed to support our energy and carbon removal strategy.Support Environmental Justice initiatives, including energy and carbon removal procurement, policy and regulatory engagement, partnership and stakeholder management, and impact evaluation and tracking. |
