Job Summary
The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is seeking a TES 4-H Assistant for Fayette County. This role will focus on implementing and coordinating the goals and objectives of the Fayette County 4-H program. For the County 4-H Program, the Assistant will work with schools to coordinate and/or facilitate in-school and after-school 4-H clubs.

Temporary Employment Services ( TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:

  • Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
  • Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
  • Assistance with special projects
  • Seasonal work
  • Emergencies

Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Create a monthly 4-H calendar and keep 4-H members informed about upcoming events and deadlines.
  • Assist in preparing curriculum, implementing youth related programs and working directly with youth activities
  • Support curriculum preparation and help facilitate youth-related programs and activities.
  • Follow and adapt lesson plans as needed to enhance youth social and cognitive skills through hands-on activities.
  • Serve as a member of the County 4-H Centennial Youth Initiative Team and assist with County 4-H and Extension activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of youth educational sessions and progress, following Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES) guidelines and policies.
  • Collaborate with the County Extension Coordinator and 4-H Youth Development Coordinator on programs benefiting Fayette County youth.
  • Travel to program sites, with mileage reimbursement in accordance with Auburn University and ACES policies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required for entry into the applicant pool.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license or be able to obtain one prior to selection.


Expectations:

  • Effective interpersonal communication and human relations skills are essential.
  • Working knowledge of personal computer operations, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Demonstrated interest in working with youth (ages 5-19) on a variety of issues.
  • Sincere interest in collaborating with professional staff in an educational setting to nurture positive self-esteem, decision-making, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks with minimal supervision from professional staff.
  • Demonstrated interest in working with teens, addressing the challenges they face as adolescents.
  • Sensitivity to the diverse styles and strategies of teens.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with families and coworkers.
  • Willingness to become familiar with and adhere to the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES) philosophy and guidelines.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
